Few things can liven up a sleepy Saturday morning like a relative posting about how they're about to be hit by a ballistic missile. Almost gave me a heart attack.
I'd thought it was just paranoia...

How does something like this even happen? I recall sometime during the Cold War that they ordered the evacuation of the entire state of Connecticut, but that was because someone loaded the wrong tape for a test, and made no mention of a ballistic missile. Stuff like this is what conspiracy theories are made of.
North Korea went from post Korean-War calm to a full-blown nuclear state, impatient for starting WWIII because there was no treaty from America for many decades and always loved blaming us for everything we did, so we left them in the crossroads against its neighbor, which then fuels their hatred purely on the U.S. more than any other nation. U.S. treated NK and her allies so badly up to this point, they really want to secure Korea by any means, and then nuke America and her allies with atomic blasts. Other nations that also have nukes want to do this too to their neighbors and their long-time enemies.
We haven't had a nuclear war at all yet since the end of WWII with just two nukes, but in this era with nearly 8 billion (I am counting disabled, neglected, poor, middle-class, the rich and the <1% elite in power), this can definitely be nightmarish. Sadly, we will ALL experience it around this coming spring or as late as the fall, and it will not end peacefully for the human race. I cannot expect without doubt more than half of this whole planet will drop dead in a matter of weeks to months, given the tremendous amount of firepower humanity never even used in years now in place, ready to be launched with the proper missile codes if there is no last-minute peace intervention.
Even scarier when you add up the extremely overdue super volcanoes such as Yellowstone or the dreaded space-related disaster like a big asteroid, Earth can definitely be snuffed out when we least expected it if we end up in a third global war. Net neutrality or not, once a global war starts, ISPs can be forced to only deliver content that would help the nations involved to mobilize and help win the war, and those that tried to diverge or speak out against it is trouble.
So once North Korea or some other nuclear-powered nation decides they stop being level-headed and just go all-out, I suggest living in places where it is very unlikely you get hit at all when authorities tell you, just as you would when waiting out a hurricane. Guam is likely to be the first to go if NK initiates it, but WWIII can also start somewhere else, such as near China, in the Middle East, or in Eurasian plains around western Russia.
Not a time to be alive in this era, but we have to, there is no choice. War is inevitable, unavoidable in due time, and our lives are irreplaceable.
