Reading the Flying Circus corebook has me more excited for an RPG than I've been in months. What a novel concept, executed masterfully.
To copy what I said to my friends? It's essentially a very Ghibli-esque fantasy world where humans have flown before even inventing the wheel, and the airplane is the dominant form of travel. Long ago, two large empires got into a massive war, mutually annihilated each other, and brought ruin to the world. Only in recent years, have isolated rural communities began to pick up the pieces.
You play a brave mercenary pilot! After picking from one of ten fleshed-out backgrounds, your character is free to explore ruins, upgrade your plane, pick up contracts, smuggle and conduct trade, and do whatever else you might expect of a knight of the sky. If you're really successful, you might even amass your own mercenary squadron! Perhaps, someday. ^^
The only downside? I can't read the book at work, due to the lewd nose art sprinkled throughout the margins. I mean, it's thematically-authentic, but still. xD
