Been derping around with RPG Maker VX Ace the past couple of days. I got it in some steam sale ages ago and hadn't touched it since.

I'm really enjoying it so far. The last couple of days were spent doing tutorials, writing a rough story script and mapping the first area of my RPG. My graphic tablet also finally saw some use!

Currently I'm wondering wether this is going to be something I'll actually stick with, or wether RPG Maker will eventually end up in my gigantic trash can of discarded hobbies (right next to my Arduino).

    I think a good way to go about it is starting with a really small project. One that doesn't take a lot of time to finish.
    And with that practice under your belt you'll work much faster the next time, allowing you to tackle (and actually finish) bigger projects.

    I find the MV engine a bit better than VX Ace, my first game might not be as marveling unless I have some community-added plugins (they're like mods to add to your projects and if you don't like them, you don't necessarily have to uninstall and complain, just turn them off). However, I do find that most of these plugins are premiums for anyone who liked it a lot, they're the same people who made web games like Kantai Collection and so forth.

    Oh yeah, I bought MV when it was in sale shortly afterwards. Admittedly, I haven't touched it much since........ ^^;

    However! my short lived stint with game dev sparked an outright obsession with video game soundtracks and music making instead, which has been my creative outlet the past couple of months. 🙂

    Hey guys, I hope I'm asking this in the right spot. I was wondering if anyone knew a place to get royalty-free (if possible) artwork? We're currently in the early stages and don't want to invest in artwork until we're sort of ready to go, so we'd like placeholder images. Thanks! 🙂

    There isn't much I can find on Google Search that would suit you, but I do know that you can listen to thousands of available royalty-free music on YouTube you can add in your project if you ask and credit them first. Once you're done, make sure you mention the whole team behind making the kind of games you were working on somewhere in your ending and the bottom of your title screen for players to see before you deploy it.

    You'll also have to be very careful on where you want to deploy your game either as a standalone, mobile, or on the web, because once deployed you can't make any more changes, and there might be a chance other people out there will get curious enough to find out what kind of game it is for them to play.

    Not sure what kind of art you're looking for but OpenGameArt might have something that takes your fancy

    This looks really good. Thanks for sending that my way! 🙂

    mnl Weew, to think that this was back in 2018! Of course, nothing ever came from that project and I basically haven't touched RPGMaker since then.

    However, due to some out-of-the-blue spark of inspiration I've actually been spending the whole day writing a story script for a new game and it's going alot smoother than I expected. The whole story skeleton, with all the locations, NPCs and plot points from beginning to end is already sketched out, which is alot more than I had last time. Let's see how it goes~
