Are visual novels worth it? I have seen them on steam and never really got into them, what do you even do? Is it just like a book you can view on your pc or what? If I wanted to get into them, what would I start with

whether or not they're worth it depends on your preferences, i enjoy them a lot
they're basically interactive, animated and (sometimes) voiced "books" where your choices affect the plot
more often than not they're simply dating simulators
just try short and free ones like katawa shoujo and see if you like them

VNs are like a theater play that you direct. You sit and read, while making "life-changing" choices. Most VNs are made by small studios so they wont contain any action except some "horizontal recreation" ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). A good visual novel will deeply engross you in its story and make you want to know more and MORE until you reach 100% completion by choosing every possible outcome.
