Favorite programming languages?

Does anyone here have experience with Cluster computing? Which programming language would you consider to be the best to write Cluster programms? I recently got a few old office PCs and i m planning to set them up as a beowulf Cluster to play around with

Started with Pascal, moved onto C++ in college, then Python and now Ruby. I'm really loving Ruby but I feel like that's just how it goes when you get more comfortable with any one language.

Started with Java and C# a few years ago(learned the OOP wrong as well 😐 ), then moved to Python(my favorite language at the moment) and done a bit of C at the college eventually.

Now, i'm really interested in Elixir(mainly because of the BEAM VM, Erlang just rocks), but you know, i need to learn FP first, right now i'm just trying to grok the Haskell Book.

I really like using Python. Too bad my school focuses on C-derived languages; Java especially.

Haskell, wow! I've bought a book on it for a friend, but he's yet to get back to me on how it is.

I've done some functional programming with Erlang (and also with JavaScript - yes, you'd be surprised how unusual new JavaScript can look!) and enjoy it, so I may step this way soon.

Since I've been switching to emacs for the past couple of weeks I imagine I'll dip into elisp, which I'm rather looking forward to as it will be my first Lisp other than a bit of Scheme a couple of years ago.

I'd be hard pressed to say a favorite programming language. I've written the most in Java (though that may be due to its verbosity), and while I like it, I definitely think I enjoy writing Erlang more. Somehow I think that while I've covered a range of languages, the best is yet to come when I delve deep in Lisp. Reading Richard Stallman's quote about Lisp got me fired up for it, and considering the community around it, I think that I'll be better off for being able to use something so flexible.

Python is love. Python is life.

Honestly, it'd probably last you a lifetime as long as you don't need to do anything too-too involved. I hear it's even replacing PERL as the desired shell-scripting language for administrators; it's not hard to see why.

Curently I only know some of Java, C# , Python, notions of C, looking forward to some haskell one day, also had pascal in some course I did, pascal is shit.

I used to code in Java for Minecraft mods but have sense lost intrest in that. I also used to code in Dark Basic 6 when I was in High School.

My all-time favorite is C, if for no other reason than I know it far better than any other language. In addition to that, however, it appeals to me because of how low-level it is: The program only does exactly what you tell it to do, and nothing more. Moreover, the language operates under the assumption that you know what you're doing, and doesn't stop you from doing evil or esoteric things with the program flow and whatnot.

In other words, I like the immense degree of control that C gives you over the resulting program's operation. The various flavors of assembly language are nice for the same reason--my favorite of that lot is MIPS64, by the way.

For higher-level stuff, I typically use Bash for quick-fix scripts and Python for more comprehensive helper programs.

I've really my enjoyed my experience of Common Lisp so far, though I have yet to get to grips with itteration and have little experience with tail recursion. Hence whatever results from my use of it tends to be grossly inefficient e.g. A function to produce a list contatining every n letter alphabetical sequence ended up requiring 1.5GB RAM utilisation in the case of n=5.

I like the cuple Python/C, I also know Java and C++ but I would never be able to use them for complex projects.

Objective-C , Swift and Ruby.
Writing code using these are really fun and theres tons of documentation.

Complete n00b here. Am using PHP and Javascript atm. Dunno what to think. 🙂 Looking forward to eventually having a favorite programming language, tho!
