Android on a Laptop is a Bitch

Equinox

So this isn't new, but I figured I'd boot up android on my laptop since it's been a long ass time since I have.

It looks fine to me. It's just I wouldn't use it though.

You don't know the pain of screen orientation. And the mouse will just randomly stop on the screen.

I don't see the reason why you'd need to boot up Android on your laptop unless you develop apps for it or something like that ¯_(ツ)_/¯

You wouldn't need to boot a live cd of android to develop apps anyways. Who said there needed to be a reason in the first place?

Welp it does look dumb if you think of it. Either way I am a windows fanboy. 😃

It was for fun, nothing dumb about it.

It looks dumb to me. Either way I would use android on my PC if I could just to see how it is. But since you said the mouse freezes sometimes it doesn't seem that it's worth trying.

Pretty sure the mouse was added afterwards (although I could be wrong), and that's why it will sometimes freeze, but all you have to do to get it back to normal is move it again.

Well then I might actually try it then. It can't hurt just to try something. Either way can you do everything an android phone can or no?

Yes and no. It can't make calls or send texts without any carrier and sim card, however, it can do everything else, and a bit more as it comes with a terminal emulator.

The text/calling make sense since it's a computer obviously lol. But that's nice to know.

I'm sure with some engineering you could make [legitimate] calls from it, texts too. That surpasses my knowledge, though.

I guess it'd be a great "linux for kids" that isn't Ubuntu.

Gentoo would be an excellent Linux for kids. LFS too.

minami

Maybe for older kids. I think the younger ones would get bored quickly. Teaching kids about GNU/Linux using LFS would be a fun project, though. I've been trying to get my father to try GNU/Linux but so far he's only moderately interested. LFS might be a fun learning experience if I ever get him to try it out.

minami

Yes, LFS = Linux from scratch. Sounds like an interesting project.

Why use android on PC when the chromebook is working to make it where linux users can run apk files from the google chrome store.

regulationfountain

Why would you do that? Install linux like antergos or trisquel.

Antergos is okay, but that's because of its arch base, and Gnome + NUmix looks good anyways (at least most of it does). Why would I install either Antergos or Trisquel when I run Arch itself? Also never heard of Trisquel.

Because chromebooks are bad.
