If he was an asshat I'd show him Elfen Lied/Green Green/Eiken/Boku no Pico/put any title from Masochist's Corner here, so he doesn't defile the good creations with his dirty mind. If we was a good person, I'd recommend Angel Beats, Code Geass, Death Note... you catch the drift.

Probably the most generic and mainstream or ones that aren't too Kawaii and are about plot. Death Note, Angel Beats, Mirai Nikki, Clannad, Steins;Gate.

Probably something short-ish but a good plot. I just want to break some stereotypes people have. I guess Steins;Gate would be a good first choice.

I'd highly recommend Soul Eater. That's what I started on.

I can't believe how many people like Angel Beats.... It was good but I found it uber depressing.... Anyway, yeah... Death Note is really good, and doesnt have a ton of the anime tropes which tend to sterotype our beloved hobby. Although 36 episodes was too much for him (he is an asshat,) so I had him watch Akame Ga Kill instead. @[deleted] I got my ex girlfriend started with Soul Eater 🙂

I'd recommend either Neon Genesis Evangelion or JoJo's Bizzare Adventure.

I usually recommend Code Geass, but Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso seems like a better recommendation now. I recently recommended it to a friend and he changed how he perceives anime now.

Well if they don't have a type of genre they like I would recommend horror and the anime H.O.T.D because if they like horror that is defiantly the one to watch first!

I think anyone can enjoy the movies of Studio Ghibli especially Spirited Away. If they want a more action-packed anime, I would suggest Accel World, SnK and/or Shakugan no Shana. For comedy, I suggest that they should watch Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou and/or Hayate no Gotoku. And of course, for anime feels, they should watch Clannad, AnoHana and/or Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann proved middling in the Japanese market, but here in the States it really struck a chord with the community. I'd chalk it up to a difference in culture. Regardless, if you had one chance to give someone an idea of what anime's all about, this is the show to watch.

I'd prolly try to show multiple sides of it, so I'd recommand to watch Another, Code Geass, Clannad/Anohana and Durarara in one or two weekends or during holidays. Death Parade would be an option as well. The main problem is probably to find something good with a decent dub tho, since it might be hard to get someone into it by starting off with subs.

I've been able to get a few people into anime with Baccano. It's got a good mixture of action and comedy, it's short enough to watch in a few sittings, it's not too weird, and it has a good dub in case the newbies don't want to deal with subtitles.

I think Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is probably the best one to show people who are new to anime even though it's pretty long.
