Starbound basically ended up being better in every aspect.
They moved so far from the core game. It used to have this nice "indie" feel about it. But then they finished the game, and that richswede Markus retired like a faggot and some nigger named Jens took over. I can't believe I wasted that much of my life on that game and it just turned shit.
Oh, so that's why it's still going. Man, I dunno. I feel like they're trying to compete with aforementioned Starbound and Terraria. They didn't even have to, Minecraft was doing its own thing just find, but then Starbound started picking up steam and the guy who retired from Terraria came back and Mojang just seemed like 'Oh shit, we should be getting that money not those guys' so then they started adding some other shit and I don't even know what's happening. All I know is that I stopped because bored and holy shit, is it just me or is Minecraft bug-infested as shit now? It wasn't this bad for me since Alpha.
