Grand Unified Tox Thread

Welcome to the GrUTT.
I'm going to have a go at making a tox group chat as an alternative to the discord channel here. Whether you dislike discord or are interested in p2p technology, give this a read! I'm not going to type out the whole tox FAQ, but in brief it is a p2p encrypted messaging program, which has group chats, voice, and video calls. It has clients on Linux, Mac, Windows, Android, and iOS among other operating systems.

I personally am using qTox on Windows, and muTox on Debian. I haven't tried any mobile client but I'm sure they're alright too. Someone has made a group chat bot out there, similar to what people use on discord channels, but I'm not super savvy on that kind of thing. So for now, if you want to try out the lewd.sx tox chat, just add me on your client and I'll invite you to the group. How many things do I need to download to use it? A client and an app? So 2 thimgs? Annoying but plausibly needed and fine.

It refuses to allow me to use it without ganting perms to take audio and pictures. It could just disallow the functio without the perms but if it's all or nothing off the bat hen they can get fucked.

It's shitty and not worth it.

This looks like a paranoid person's skype. I could see it being a replacement for Skype, but definitely not discord.

No, you just download it on whatever device you want to use it on. A client is a client whether you call it a program, and application, an app whatever.

I don't think it's really important in this case. It's all open source, the code has been audited and you can audit it yourself. Even if it requires permissions, you know that it's not doing anything malicious. All of your 'critiques' are just of aesthetics. You're acting like a "client" and an "app" are different things and that you need to download two pieces of software on one device. And if the function of granting app permissions is to protect you from malicious software, then it's redundant when downloading open source software.

It's main feature is being p2p encrypted. If you don't care about that feature then yeah you probably won't bother. But like I said in the intro, if you dislike discord or like p2p, it's a good choice.
