The team behind that site is still doing some API recovery "finalizing", but at least it is quickly stable according to them in their latest announcement. Among other places that relies heavily on the GCP code, this amounts to having millions of people being affected, and it already generated some interesting moments during its brief downtime, some more dramatic and desperate as if some lives' really depend on it. The next time a place as Discord or any other site that uses the same main browsing engine script goes down again, recognize that it is Google's technical fault, only a few such places have such a script. It's only a "soft reset" to consumers if site devs and admins know exactly what to do in such mishaps, the same could be said for Discord's many servers, it had just as much popularity as the most played game in the world in terms of messages sent daily on average.

I don't think so personally? I have not tried using the 'groups' feature, I've only used it for one-on-one chats. I've used its voip feature though and it's solid. Whatsapp is Facebook, and there were some issues with Telegram's security a while back, and their server software is proprietary.

I've used qTox before, but I didn't really like it all that much for some reason. I'm more of an IRC person, really.

I do like IRC. My whole guff with it is how I can't send emotes or images through most clients. I dunno if y'all have to me on Discord in a while, but like ninety percent of my writings there have some sorta cutesy anime emoji tacked onto the end. Usually conveying some kinda affection for who I'm talkin' to.

... In fact, I kinda almost wrote one just now. Aheh.

Have any of you guys tried XMPP/Jabber? It isn't the best for group discussions but it is great for one on one conversations. Just don't join 404.city, they don't like to play nice with other servers for some reason.
