I mostly listen to music on my PC, but I also have a handful of tapes I'll put on at home as well. My favorite for listening to with headphones is a BASF chromium dioxide type II tape of Synchronicity by The Police. I hadn't heard the album before finding the tape, and even though I'm not an audiophile or anything, it's always a little disappointing when i go to listen to it online. Inevitably I get my Walkman out of the drawer and go back to the tape. But naturally these only really got made during the height of cassette popularity, and music made afterwards either got no cassette release, or a very cheap one. I have tapes of some of my favorite early 90s albums like They Might Be Giants' Flood but it just doesn't hold up anymore quality-wise, whereas a CrO2 tape made a decade prior will still hold up.
So yeah--any tapes you have that were made too early or too late for a high quality version? Got any Chromium tapes of your own? Are they genuine BASF? I didn't see any other cassette threads on this board so feel free to talk about that in general, like what you like to listen with. I've noticed too many boomboxes and car players have a bad audio floor that really shows at higher system volumes or with Dolby B engaged.
