I've found a peculiar hobby as of late in trawling my favorite tracker for pre-2000's anime I missed out on as a kid, one of 'em being this number right here. No unmarked spoilers, but it's got this universal appeal about it that reminds me of Pixar or Dreamworks at their finest. It's quite charming.

I can't be the only one who's watched this series, right? ^^

All in One

I watched a few episodes a while back along side some of my friends, Wasn't really my or any one of us' thing. It's the same issue as when I tried watching Sailor Moon where I think I'm just too old to get into it now. 70 epsiodes also seemed quite daunting for a monster of the week format.

Plenty to like about it though. Sakura and Tomoyo are cute as fuck and the artstyle in general is solid. Sakura just wearing different costumes out of her Richie Rich friend's collection instead of a single de facto magical outfit is something I found I didn't appreciate nearly enough when I was watching. It's such a good spin on the formula and it's done in such a subtle way. Sakura's father was also wonderfully aloof. The sports festival early on really exemplified it.

In terms of retro magical girl shows Princess Tutu was more my kind of thing. I only watched half of it because school got in the way but I'd like to finish it sometime.

CCS honestly has the loveliest art. Some series I've seen - Sweetness and Lightning, Barakamon - they come close, but imo none of them convey the sense of childlike wonder witnessed here. <3

Seeing art like this reminds me of my friend with a baby daughter. She's so adorable, not even Saku can compare. <3

Honestly, the portraits this guy puts out are drop-dead gorgeous. I hope he lands an awesome job for it someday.

Should I watch the old stuff first before watching the newer show?

Clear Card, you mean? That would be best, since it's a direct sequel to the 90's original. There's also Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, which uses the design and concepts of Sakura and places them in a medieval fantasy universe. The best analogue I can think of is an "official alternate-universe fanfiction". ^^

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle is lovely! A shame I never finished that show.

All in all, I never really managed to get into one of those CLAMP anime adaptions (xxxHolic, Reservoir Chronicles, Card Captor, etc.). The pacing was always a bit to slow for my taste I guess?
