Dunno if y'all have been keeping up with the news lately, but this guy, one Akihiko Kondo, recently made international headlines when he married famous pop idol Hatsune Miku. Yes, that Hatsune Miku. Though not sanctioned by Japanese law, the newlyweds were officiated by a certificate from holographic AI manufacturer Gatebox, and celebrated with a wedding ceremony attended by forty people and costing two million Yen (approximately $17,400). Adorably, though the Miku plush he brought didn't have any fingers, the gold wedding band he bought was specially-sized to fit around her wrists.
I must admit, I've found his case especially fascinating. Akihiko, the groom, isn't bad-looking, and both the guests at his wedding and the positive reception he's received on Japanese Twitter has indicated to me that he's especially agreeable. By all accounts, he should've found someone wonderful. Instead, he was reportedly bullied by female co-workers to the point of a nervous breakdown, and sought refuge with a girl who'd never do such things.
Whether one should chalk that up to Japanese work culture, the Japanese economy, or some sort of personal failing, is ultimately a matter of opinion. Regardless, I'm happy that he's happy. ^^
