Pleroma VS Mastodon

So what is pleroma and mastodon

With all of the drama on the fediverse about which software is better I wanted to voice my opinion and invite other too also do so.
In my opinion I prefer pleroma, it even has the option of changing to the mastodon UI if you want to.

I don't have any idea about either but pawoo is using Mastodon so I'm leaning toward it

I joined a Mastodon-based one a while back, completely forgot what one it was, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Haven't had a chance to see Pleroma, so I'd have to test it out before I gave my opinion. Are either of them really active?

People have set up pleroma on raspis, and the network traffic is fairly minimal. The issue is you need a domain and if you're hosting at home you run into dynamic IP issues.

Domain is no issue, and I don't have a dynamic IP so there really shouldn't be an issue. Though maybe it'd be better to set it up on a Digital Ocean droplet or something like that.

Edit: Scratch that, I just logged into my niu.moe account and saw you have a rather nice vanity URL. Mind if I just join your instance?

I've ran websites from dynamic ip's back when the UK did not enforce the anti encryption and censorship stuff.
Dynamic dns was done via some hackjob script that updated the DNS record whenever my IP changed. I did this on both BT (British Telecom) and Talk Talk with no complaints from either ISP.
My instance now runs from a VPS as can be seen from the reasons stated above.

Man, the Fediverse is so much better than I remembered! I think the deciding factor this time around was following/replying to Toots on the public timeline rather than just my friends' or on my home server. There's so many fun and interesting people living their lives; I'd kick myself if I turned away now. ^^

Of course pleroma is better!

Basically more features (screwdriver included) and more efficient. And on the non-tech side the governance is open and shared among a team of dev rather than 1 person (gargron in the case of mastodon).

(but well, I’m biased as a pleroma dev I guess)
