What's the saddest you've seen? Lay it on me, I'll burn through everything mentioned this weekend.
Angel Beats! and Sunday Without God immediately come to my mind. They had their moments for me.

Alright, I've been told a looooot to watch Angel Beats and I've never heard of Sunday Without God. I'll knock them both out in a row.
Most of my favorites.
Especially anything related to Suehiro Maruo, the guro gawd.
Most visual novels are more crushing than anime and manga for me. Kikokugai - The Cyber Slayer was probably the most intense.

I've never read a visual novel before, anywhere in particular I should start? I could just jump into Kikokugai
The most messed up anime/manga I've watched/read is Berserk. I'd consider Shin Sekai Yori to be the saddest, and it also has its fair share of messed up elements. If you're looking into macabre VNs there's also Higurashi. Haven't played it myself but it does have a reputation, presumably for good reason.

I'm reading through Berserk right now and I've read through Higurashi c: Higurashi is pretty neat, but not as macabre as people might say ^^ I'll check out Shin Sekai Yori right now dood

Hmm... for dark/fucked up VNs Kikokugai is probably the best along with Saya no Uta. Those two are both good starts since they have either no choices or very few and are short overall. Saya is probably a better start of the two. Heil Nitro+!
Another one that isn't fucked up or dark but is good to start with Katawa Shoujo since it's freeware and a lot of people have played it. After that there isn't really any order you need to follow. This is what I've played if you want my recommendations: https://vndb.org/u133339/list
Never quite got past the second episode, but Video Girl Ai is about one early twenty-something dude's struggle with loneliness in love and life. It's also got a pretty solid dub for a nineties show, so more power to ya if you're into that.
Obligatory Clannad, or I guess anything made by Key in general.
Koe no Katachi </3 but is beautiful

Oh for some reason I thought we were talking about light novels ^^ I've played through a bunch of visual novels. I'll download Kikokugai right now! I just finished Saya no Uta too. I'll go through your list (armless girl is best girl)

Also hear these anime can be quite the feels too, but I have not watched them yet: Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad. Wolfs Children. Kiznaiver. Also these shows while not nessecarily being sad in itself. Quite the tear jerking endings, without spoiling anything: Assasination Classroom Gosick Paprika Manga: Shamo Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin Dorohedoro Bradherley no Basha Metamorphis by Shindol (Hentai Doujin, heh. But legit made me dead inside for a whole week). I like sad stuff for whatever reason. Because feels makes me feel alive. These days, I don't watch a whole lot of it though. I try to avoid it. Being sad is sad you know. I tried rewatching Clannad, but haha. I couldn't. I do rewatch Welcome to the NHK a lot though, love it. My favorite show.

I'm sure some of y'all have heard of it by now, but
Just how bad is it? Let's put it this way: I haven't read that far, but word is the translators included an explicit trigger warning for one of the later chapters.
