Let us have some quick fun with a little personality quiz. Pretend that you somehow happen to be transferred to the naval academy, and you're given an exam to see what will the admiral (teitoku) wants to outfit you with from the answers you give. There are ten passages to describe your life as a ship, and there is no right or wrong answers.

So all you have to do is come in at your leisure, take this little quiz at your own pace, and by the end of every calendar month, I will give you a ship class based on your answers. You can retake this quiz as often as you like if you wish! 😃

Passages 1 through 3 are introductions, conversations with others, and your relationship with the admiral. Passages 4 through 7 are related to sorties. Passage 8 is your reaction when the admiral calls you in for a remodel, and the last two is related to retirement (decommission).

Some are about to cry that they will too share the same fate after spending so much time with you, and some have already left to live out the rest of their lives. How does this make you feel?

E: Murder (You were killed outside of a sortie by someone you know within your assigned ship class)
F: Sunk (You fought honorably but died during battle or were caught in a storm and ended up in the abyss, later being fed by monsters)

Here I go, this will be my first attempt at this:

I was appointed to the academy nine months ago under the classification of a Nagara-class light cruiser, unit 328 on a cold, overcast Wednesday mid-February in Hashirajima, Yamaguchi Prefecture. It was a steady breeze, 8 knots (14.8 km/h) on the base's wind socket.
I went in, and as usually expected, a few fellow light cruiser and destroyer acquaintances in front of me greeted me with a warm welcome. I said hi back, and then bow down in unison. I do not seem to have a sibling of my own, so I was the unlucky one in my ship class.

After a few morning lessons with the usual routine: Listening to senior shipgirls who were on the field for years discussing various subjects, and the occasional distracting off-topic talk from some of my peers. They covered the shelling, torpedoing, anti-air cut-ins, and maneuver tactics, and I tried my best in mathematics with fairly above-average results.
By midday, they showed me the cafeteria and I had not seen that kind of food the locals always have when it comes to rations and food stamps. They also showed me the bathroom, but not the kind of interior from Western nations; it serves a unique purpose among all the shipgirls. A giant water bucket sits on top of the wooden beam thought to be a prank that actually grants an instant benefit if splashed on. Therefore, I went through their strict regulations and let the bucket splash on my head, the unusual scent a total bliss I never experienced.

At sunset, since I have nothing else better to do other than reading a few old history books in the lamplight, a man in his 40's in a white uniform with a hat knocks on my private quarters seeking my attention. I put the books back on the bookshelf, and there he is, it is one of Japan's finest admirals!
He greeted me first, and I greeted back. He tried to pry me with questions about why on this planet I stepped foot on the base in such a time like that, and I said that I am the unlikely hero who wants to show his country what I made of. He chuckled a little, but then turned serious that I needed to prove my worth to him first. As I am only just a sheepish regular in the CL/CLT ranks, he wants to check my height and weight, and I obliged without showing any shame. At that time when I was not used to being busy like school for many years, the height/weight station thinks I am roughly 170 cm, taller than most, and weighing no more than 43 kg, a bit underweight for such a class. I may be just as old as the majority of the peer-to-peer community, but how can I impress him if I am too light to be light cruiser!?
The admiral was a bit concerned about my displacement (weight) that I had to stay in the base for a while until my weight goes to at least satisfactory, which isn't that far off. He also wants to check my muscle mass, and apparently, no matter how much weightlifting I tried since school, I am still leagues from being able to lift a depth charge and fling it down the water or rapid-fire a torpedo salvo, and stuff like that. Maybe it has to do with my faulty genetics or my lack of exercising, which is generally frowned upon.

I stick around the base for a good few months, worrying too much about everything, from recent stories about missing ships to the constant everyday stress, I resorted to go with the flow in hopes I get the chance to set sail for the first time, in the flesh.
By summer, when the days started to get a little too hot, my weight spiked a little, and I went over to the admiral's quarters just as he was about to go in, and requested to see if my weight truly changed. He was happy this time that I did ate something over half a year, and when he changes the scales around, I stepped my feet as instructed, and whoa, I ended up weighing 50 kg! He congratulated me on my dieting efforts, and let me in personally to his room.
It was on a rare midsummer night in August, so I sat in front of him, he told me of a container ship carrying a large amount of food products from across multiple nations per trade agreements the nation's Empress ordered once every three months. The catch was, if that ship is tossed over by the sea or robbed by pirates, we would not be able to have the food to eat for the whole season. The admiral told me very clearly that I will not be alone in that expedition, so I am off with the following ships in the combined fleet: Abukuma, Sendai, Yahagi, Katori, Suzutsuki, Michishio (Main fleet), and me as his normal escort flagship along with Hatsukaze, Oyashio, Kamikaze, Agano, and Asagumo. It may seem like the mission assigned for me is fitting for CL/DD cliques, so I take it, but since I haven't been sailing at all or don't even know how to swim, as soon as my head hits the water for even a minute, I would just drown like an earthworm.

My confidence may be high, but some of my peers had doubts, and I reassure them that the mission be as easy as eating curry fries. Nonetheless, we set sail on our own, across the western coast of Japan to land ashore on South Korea to grab the green fuel barrels; we needed them for the challenges ahead of us. We then head southbound through a nasty storm we cannot avoid, and we lost only a small bit of fuel thanks to our radar antennas. We finally come to the ship itself, but the pirates surrounded it and nearly took the whole vessel for themselves. My gut feelings tell me to start shelling headfirst despite the mechanics telling me to do the opening salvo first. I hesitated for a bit, that if I were to take a plunge in the water, no one would try to yank me back onto the waterline. Since I did not get the chance to set the formation, Abukuma said that she prefers a double-line.
I told the flagship of the main fleet knowing that I am inexperienced, and she quickly showed me what she does, by pulling the trigger on my leg attachments, dangerous if not used properly. I calmed myself down, then my legs, before I tensed my dominant right arm to find the trigger and let out three torpedoes in a wide arc onto a single pirate ship, and it missed! Abukuma yelled at me that I did not set a desired angle first, and just wasted my first set of four salvos. She pointed out that the angle was at a default 0 degrees.
Abukuma then takes her turn by setting a desired angle to 35 right onto the second pirate ship and it hit their hull for the kill. The rest soon followed in unison to sink the one that I missed earlier, we only wasted a third of our torpedoes for a simple portion of the task. The hardest part is trying to get the container ship back to harbor alive.

The next thing we knew, we hit the big bad node, our composition is just right according to the branching map Abukuma has on her hands, and that is when we realize we have to hit first before they hit us. With no carriers to lead the opening, the enemy is the first to launch these monstrous ball-sized cat-like planes. We spotted them, and they too spotted us, with no time for the flagship to explain me how to fire up the AA turrets. I reached for a small lever on my left leg to raise up my AA guns, and then tap on the trigger on my left arm to let it rip, but it can only do so much, and I have to keep pulling it along with the second lever on my left shoulder to rotate my AA guns.
The enemy thinks I am cleverer than they are, trying to sink me first, and my speed alone can only do so much for about a full minute unless I have turbines that make me go faster. Abukuma grew concerned and issued orders on my support fleet's peers to protect me as much as possible, but that instant, every single one of us from the aerial assault were in scolding smoke, but it was me that felt that way worse because I have a low tolerance to pain, so I took more damage than expected.
We then started the opening salvo, so too our common enemy, they are only two enemy destroyers and one light cruiser, the rest just carriers. The opening salvo part is the most infuriating part, but somehow I damaged one of the three enemy carriers enough that they cannot retrieve or launch their planes. Abukuma was pleased to hear that, and then we start shelling. The enemy keeps launching a smaller group of cat-like planes every now and then to harass our fleet, we pounded as best as we could, but by the time we are down to just one enemy carrier, I was already tattered, feeling a bit cold under my skin, and my heart rate almost at a lethal pace. It is at my best interest to let the flagship know that I can only handle so much punishment that a night battle is not what I am going for. Our closing salvo managed to wipe out the lone light cruiser, and we barely made it back to home port.

As expected, we won that day, and back at base, we were granted a gold S medal for sinking the entire enemy fleet, and the container ship made it safely.

Then it came the day where time flies by a lot, and after learning so much in such a short span with my peers, the admiral is getting older and is close to passing away, he shows me the remodeling wardrobe where the newest inventory and clothing from the latest trends. I am always happy to try out new things, sure it may be a pain to see if it fits, I feel like I might be able to impress my peers even more by dressing up like them.

Unfortunately, with the passing of the admiral not too long after my remodel and many more dangerous sorties later with some of my peers already sunk, waved their goodbyes, etc, I am still a bit tight-lipped about fulfilling my bloodthirsty hobby as a light-cruiser becoming middle-aged with little tidbits of who I was, or who I really am. I do not even know what would happen if the local government found out about my recent adventures with these cutesy girls and the dutiful admiral always monitoring the recent happenings around our waters.
With him gone, and there is no replacement to keep the academy going after so many of them forced to retire, it would be time for me to say I have to step down against my will, so I left without a trace and set sail back home. Perhaps the prefecture I was in doesn't need that many ships anymore, and have me scrapped on the spot, but I fled like a phantom. I tried as best as I could to return home from kilometers out, only to find myself unknowingly struck by lightning from my Kai Ni mast and sank immediately off the coast of southern California, where someday I would be explored later for research purposes, but by whom, who knows. Only sharks have been known to feast on me from time to time, and I accepted my fate with honor, meaning not turning into an Abyssal.

So, this is my life as a ship to the best of my ability on my first attempt. Sadly, I was sunk by nature on the way home as a Kai Ni, not by the enemy.

Given my response pattern, my quiz thinks I am a Torpedo Light Cruiser, or CLT.
