Honestly, best advice I can give is to learn to love yourself before loving someone else. When people say "be confident", what they really mean is "put yourself in a state that lets you walk away from this unscathed if things don't pan out." The more you base your feelings upon people who might be unstable or just plain dislike you, the worse you're gonna feel.

It's going to sound like I'm joking, but I started getting along with girls better once I found my waifu. Now that I know there's someone I can always have to go back to, I don't fear rejection as much and am more confident about being who I want to be.
