Is a platform worth it just for one game?

So I've recently been giving some serious thought towards buying an Xbox One for my birthday coming in April. I ain't really got a lotta cash lying around, but I did get a hundred bucks for Christmas, so I'm already one third of the way there. ($250 for the console, plus $30 for the game.)

Thing is though, I'm literally buying an entire console just to play Halo 5. Now don't get me wrong, the game is great; I've tested it at a friends house - the gunplay is superb, and the Forge map editor allows a level of creativity surpassed only by oldschool Half-Life mods. But even if one of my good friends plays on it, I still can't help but be a little bit wary of buying a console for one single game.

I dunno, what do you guys think? Is an XBone currently worth it just for Halo 5? And furthermore, is a console ever worth it just for a single title?

Halo 5 is shit don't even bother. If you was a Halo fan in any way you would know how they have killed it. I have bought every Halo game and 5 is the only one I never finished. If you want a console just for Halo 5 don't even bother. So many other great games out.

Well, I'd consider it to be the same as buying a $280 game. So in my opinion, no.

It might not be worth it at first glance, but it also means that you have the opportunity to purchase future games for the console.

If you still have qualms, then you can always steal the console and pirate the game. 🙂

I bought a PS4 saying I was only going to get Persona 5 but ended up buying more for it afterwards. The only bad thing about the XBone is that there aren't a lot of exclusives.

I've got an issue with this post. First and foremost Backlash has already stated they enjoy Halo 5, they wouldn't be entertaining the idea if they didn't already play a bit of Halo 5 and enjoy it. Secondly "If you was a Halo fan ..." is such a bullshit statement. In my opinion he's probably the bigger Halo fan between the two of you simply because he's entertaining the idea of buying a console for the sole purpose of playing a Halo game. Your opinion on Halo 5 isn't conducive to this thread, the only sentence you posted that is even helpful to answering Backlash's question is "If you want a console just for Halo 5 don't even bother."

I apologize for going off-topic and on a tangent so here is my opinion. No. Don't buy an Xbox One for the sole purpose of playing Halo 5. As someone else mentioned it's effectively buying a $300 game, and really I don't see that as a wise investment. However, and I did this with my PS3, if you can justify for other things I think it can be worth it. I purchased a PS3 just to play CoD (no need to rub it in), and I enjoyed playing CoD. I played hours upon hours of it. But, I felt bad buying a console just for the sole purpose of playing a single game franchise. So I sought out other titles in the bargain bin for like $5 or $10 and played them, and quite enjoyed them. I also turned my PS3 into my personal entertainment center where I could watch anime, and tv. What it really boils down to is how open you are to the idea of using it for other things instead of just using it to play Halo 5. If you can think of ways you can actually make use of it other than Halo 5 I think the purchase could be worth it. If you can't think of other ways to make use of the console than I would reckon you should pass up on the idea.

Also Rare Replay is a really good game and it's mostly bargain bin nowadays

Exclusives are the only thing stopping the PC from taking even more market share, so therefore are a bad thing. Bash All Exclusives! (except first party, of course, because who expects Nintendo to release Mario on Xbox?)

It'll take take a few weeks to save up the cash, and I prolly won't even be able to play it till summer; so I've got plenty of time to mull it over before I decide. Again, I really appreciate all the help. ^^

Because there are less incentives to buy the console itself.
