Let It Die is an free-to-play hack-and-slash game by Grasshopper Manufacture (aka Suda51) and published by GungHo Online Entertainment, released on December 3rd, 2016. Many elements of the game take inspiration from Dark Souls, while including a relatively high difficulty, leveling and character system, unforgiving, gory combat and a unique death system.

The apocalypse has come and gone, and all that's left of Tokyo is a desolate amalgamation of twisted metal and horror; sitting in the middle of it is the mysterious Tower of Barbs. The player is led by the energetic Uncle Death to take control of one of many Fighters that challenge the tower, and all the grotesque horrors and enemies that lie within. But even more challenges await, including the enigmatic Jackals, and the unique cast of characters that seem to know more than they say...

It's free on PSN! Just give it a download, no PS Plus needed.
Final notes
Hot damn, this game is unforgiving and brutal, but I can't help but keep playing it. The atmosphere, combat system and (extremely) odd cast of characters just really draws you in. Although it's characterized as free to play and people are scared of it becoming Freemium, I haven't run into any microtransaction-heavy systems so far. If you like Dark Souls, you'll definitely want to give this a shot!
