The long awaited fifteenth installment of the Final Fantasy series is coming out on the 29th of this month. After all these years I still find it a bit hard to believe that the game will actually be released in just under a fortnight. I didn't see any threads about it when I did a site wide search so I decided to make one myself. What are your thoughts, if you have any, on Final Fantasy XV and its now infamously long development time?
Me, I first heard about it around '10, not long after leapfrogging from Kingdom Hearts to Final Fantasy proper. They still called it Final Fantasy Versus XIII back then. Practically nothing was really known about it but there were still enough details floating around for me to get excited about: a return to the classic overworld map from the pre-X games; Yoko Shimomura on music, Tetsuya Nomura on direction and story, the bulk of the Kingdom Hearts developers, a real dream team in the making; I thought the idea of a road-trip style epic sounded comfy. For a while I very closely followed new details on Versus XIII as they came along but as more and more time passed with the release date still nowhere in any near or known future my interest started to wane. 2013 I think was about the time I fell off the band-wagon and from then on I only heard about new developments in passing, such as when they re-branded it to Final Fantasy XV, dropped Nomura from the project or sent a bunch of interns out to hunt for cool rocks. I'm still interested to see what the final product is even though I have a hunch that this will go down as the Duke Nukem Forever of our time.
Even if the game turns out to be garbage, the combat system seems pretty good.
Regardless of whether the game's good or not, I just can't believe it's set in (what looks like) the real world this time around.
Has it dropped the turn-based combat system? If so, I might hafta check it out...

It's opt-in, I believe.
Got about 16 hours in before I got bored, to be honest.
