My experience with skylake

So a few days back, i splurged and bought myself a skylake CPU. Things didnt go the way it was planned.

Old Specs:

i7 920 OC @ 3.62 GHz
12GB DDR3 @ 1333 MHz
Asus P6T

New Specs

i7 6700k
8GB DDR4 @2400 MHz
ASrock H170 Pro

installed it no problem, my case was a bit of a bitch though.

Turn on my computer, run a few benchmarks and games to see the mad performance boosts i was promised

Framerates for other games remained the same.

Fuck me the biggest waste of $500. Never upgrading the CPU ever again, Just gonna overclock till it actually becomes obsolete.

Yeah, CPU upgrades shouldn't really be very frequent. I'm using an FX-8350 I got a few years ago, still fantastic, I can overclock it to whatever.
Some guys got it up to like 8.5gHz I think with liquid nitrogen cooling.

If i could configure again all my setup i'd switch it for an i5. Anyway FX's are cheap and overall, good..

If I could find a way to do liquid nitrogen cooling without it just constantly evaporating/turning into gas and get my clock speed to 8gHz, that would be really dank.

I would have expected some improvement after 8 years of not upgrading the CPU

Yeah, you got me there, I would have assumed some bigger improvements if it was that many years.

If nothing else, it'll be a bit more future proof, and I suppose you'd have much better performance if you were to ever play something like DayZ; or any other notoriously CPU-heavy game, for that matter. But yeah, after a certain point, CPUs don't really help much, in general. =w=

i'm running an i3 540 and the only thing that maxes it out is having a ton of google chrome tabs lol
most games depend almost solely on the gpu

Surprisingly capable little thing, 2 core 4 threads @ 3GHz.. almost the same as my i5 650.
