Got into this oldish manga a few weeks ago, and I have to admit, I'm fairly impressed. It's an offshoot story of the Dragon Quest games, with sort of the same general plot - oh man, there's another demon god thing trying to take over the world - but it focuses on Dai, a short little teen who's destined to become the hero of humanity. It's pretty heavy on combat, and feels a lot like Dragonball Z in a lot of respects, but it occasionally raises race-related issues that keep me interested in the writing. The characters are pretty neat, too, and unlike Dragonball the 'normal' humans don't seem to lose pace as combatants.
Anyone else tried Dai no Daiboken? Wouldn't blame you if you've never heard of it, it's pretty old. Still, worth reading if you like semi-simplistic, battle-heavy shonen.
