How did you get into watching anime?

How did you get into watching anime? Did you start watching anime from a young age? Did you like anime right away?

For me, and I'm sure a lot of the people around my age, I was introduced to anime when I was watching TV as a child. On TV, I watched Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, and Naruto. I've always enjoyed watching animations. I started to watched English subtitled anime when I was a sophomore in high school. That's when I learned to love anime even more because of the great Japanese voice actors. :steve:

Of course I also used to watch the classic anime that aired in the U.S. before we even knew to call it anime. But that stopped somewhere in my late middle school/early high school years. As for how I actually got into anime, I started watching the "Bleach" anime on Netflix like five years ago and thought it was the coolest thing I ever saw. I remember the anime that I watched after that was Chobits, then I never turned back. :steve:

I can't really count watching Gundam, Naruto, or One Piece on Adult Swim back in the day because I didn't even know what anime was back then.
It all started my Junior year of high school where I got this itch to rewatch old cartoon shows in their entirety after finishing a show called Smallville and not knowing what to watch next. I started with the Justice League, then Batman Beyond, then Avatar: The last Airbender, and then I moved onto Naruto. Naruto got me into anime. After watching the whole first season and moving onto Shippuden I was stuck and wanted more anime. From there I saw anime such as Gundam The 08th MS Team, Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Bleach. Then one of my friends mentioned I should watch One Piece... One Piece is the anime that got me into manga. Once I got caught up, I needed more... This was the part right before the new world. I needed to know what was going to happen next. So I read the manga. My first manga I read from start to finish was Ranma 1/2...

It all started with Dragon Ball Z I guess. In my country, when I was young, TV networks show anime during prime time. Also, during afternoon, I get excited going coming home from school to watch anime such as Flame of Recca, Ghost Fighter (Yu Yu Hakushu), Slam Dunk, and a lot more! Internet wasn't that big yet during that time so I was able to fully enjoy watching anime (no other distractions).

I focused on my studies when I was in High School so no time to watch anime for me. 🙁 But when college came, the hell I cared with my grades. Hahaha. So I watched tons of anime (and some TV series too), and until now that I'm already working, I watch an anime or two with my lovely girlfriend. 🙂
