So what's up guys, linux lover here (also learner though). So what distros do you use like? whats do you use for servers? I've tried most of the popular desktop environments and distros but I like ubuntu with xfce, i like it's simplicity and at the same time depth of customization. As you can imagine i like ubuntu for servers, i've never needed anything else but learning a more serious distro like centos is definitely on my to do list.

Running Centos on the forum server. I have to say its really reliable.

I really like the CentOS, Tails, and Kali. that's about all I can think of from the top of my head.

Honestly, (and sadly I suppose), the only time I use a certain Linux distro is when I need to penetrate my neighbor's wi-fi. Yes, I'm a cheap-o like that, haha. Just kidding 😃. I use Linux back when I was in college (since it's required) and of all the distros I've used, Ubuntu is the closest to Windows. And since it's the closest, it's really not that hard to use it. But then I always struggle with compatibility issues since most of the applications I use are Windows-based.

Linux Mint - User friendly for the most part, and a solid distro for newcomers. Antegros - When ya just can't be fucked going through the archlinux install Archlinux - When ya can be fucked going through the archlinux install Debian - Stability Elementaryos - When you wanna look like a macfag but be like a linuxfag.

I rate CentOS and Debian, they're both pretty fantastic for servers. I like Ubuntu for Desktops though, I fall in love with it over and over again!

ArchLinux. I can keep it as minimal as I want (I'm not running a desktop manager, just Openbox as my window manager). I also like debian sid, and #! was the shit (bunsenlabs is it's successor and it's pretty cool too). For servers I like debian, though centos looks pretty stable.

I use Ubuntu 15.04 for my server, but I am thinking of switching to Centos 6 in a couple weeks.

Using Arch with a MATE UI here. It's a process to setup, but I like it.

Although... It's worth mentioning, Manjaro really isn't a beginner's distro. I actually tried it myself on my laptop, and I gave up after days of constant tinkering. That's fine if you're into that, but if you want a distro that "just works" for gaming, I really couldn't recommend Kubuntu enough.

Though with non-rolling releases like *ubuntu, you may have to manually update the kernel to get the latest gpu divers. It's not really difficult with ukuu though.

For running games I cannot recommend enough a qemu virtual machine with windows on it
Outside of the initial setup there are no compatibility issues, but it requires compatible hardware

Manjaro is definitely not a total beginner's distro, but it works fine for everything I do daily, other than a few games that don't work with Valve's Proton just yet.

I love old hardware, though! Especially from AMD. My old Vista PC had an Athlon and a basic graphics card, and it lasted me all throughout high school. ^^

My laptop and my server run Fedora. My vm lab (windows 10 desktop host) has a slew of things. Ubuntus, kalis, remnux, pfsense. Metasploitable.

I used to run arch on my laptop, and it was good. Never quite got around to customizing my awesome wm how I wanted, and the defaults were lacking. I'm forced to use macs at work, so I went with gnome this time around.

Its also where I play games. And VMware licenses are cheap when you buy them off of bulk re-sellers on amazon. I got spoiled when school bought me a year long license for VMware.
