It's honestly amazing that it survived as long as it did. WD and HGST (which I think are now owned by Toshiba) are generally the most reliable, with WD red drives probably being the best out of the WDs. That being said, I think Seagate are a lot better than they used to be, and they certainly have some more interesting options in the higher (10+ TB) capacity range.

Been thinking about getting one of those ultra-high capacity WD Reds for my current PC. ~$350 for 12TB is something I could save up for, and the benchmarks for SSHDs don't seem all that promising...

Bear in mind that 12TB is a lot of data to lose should the drive fail for whatever reason, and being a large drive, would be more expensive to use in a redundant array.

I've not heard great things about SSHDs, though my ex-housemate had one without any trouble. But it kinda is two points of failure in one device.

That's odd - I've never noticed a high pitched whine from noctua fans!

Alright... So after an hour of troubleshooting, and a ton of Google searches, I managed to figure out that Noctua's provided screws simply don't play well with the HAF XB EVO. Given that installation using rubber plugs would require a complete teardown of the system, I reckon I'll install the back fan once I get a new CPU cooler.

As for the 200-mil up top, it's quieter at full blast than my stock Wraith Prism cooler is at idle. Good stuff, well worth the ~$30 I paid for it.

I think so! It was just the stock cooler that came with the chip, so maybe they cheaped out on thermal compound.

Anyone else who doesn't see the appeal of tenkeyless keyboards? Sure they're small and look aesthetic, but it just seems like such an inconvenience.

Not much wrong with a TKL in my opinion, unless you do a lot of number typing. I've gotten along quite well with the keyboard on my A485.

Auuuu... Alright, so, lesson learned. If you're going to set your BIOS to EFI mode, you will make damn sure your graphics card supports it. ESPECIALLY if your processor doesn't come with any integrated graphics.

I just spent six hours and undertook two Windows installs just to try and get Linux working on this thing. By now I don't even care; Bill Gates can have a hardcopy of my entire internet history as far as I'm concerned. I just need a working OS, man...
