Hey! I accidentally found this forum site on some google-searching which led me here, and for some reason I was instantly enamored by it. Primarily from lurking, I see there's some good shitposting here; a talent which seems to have been mostly lost on the internet.

So, anyone want to tell me the jist of the forum?

Sounds like a gay old time! I've been looking to get into Linux, but it seems too daunting and I don't much feel like tampering with something I don't really know, but the way Windows is trying to force they're bloated spyware is really tempting me. I'm afraid their going auto-update me to 10, as I know they've been regressively updating older systems to include the same shit. Had the manually dig it out of my system and turn off updates, like a damned cancer.

Haven't had a handle for years now as the forum scene seemed to really dry up and go to normalfaggotry and been mostly on the chans.

We all gotta start somewhere. I'm still using Windows solely because video games. And as far as my experience has been, Windows 8.1 Enterprise doesn't bug you about installing 10.

I can't stand Windows 8's tablet like design. I'm sticking with 7 as it's by far the most aesthetic OS of the bunch without sacrificing performance.

Yeah, it does suck. Though to be fair, the only time I ever need to use the Metro interface is when doing VPN stuff natively, which is very rare.

Please don't quote me in the future, Moeki, without explicit permission. I appreciate your answer, but the notification really triggered me and I nearly had a panic attack. My triggers are being quoted, anime girls trying to end a NEET lifestyle, and circular avatar pictures - as you can imagine, your post was pretty traumatic for me. I have PTSD from previous forums and would hate to continue that cycle here.

I was going to try to Mint, but then I heard it got compromised and at this time I'm waiting for another computer to drop into my lap before I start going screwy. Basically I need a guinea pig to test before I start playing around.

I've thought about dual-booting Windows and Linux, but I can't see the purpose of dual booting. I want to do it out of curiosity and to sate that it doesn't seem worth it, at least until I'm familiar with Linux on a test rig.

I'd dual boot if you can find extra space on your hard drive. Just in case. You can try out a live environment of a distro and see what it's like. Setting up wireless can be a pain in the ass since some chipsets aren't supported by Linux. And yeah, Mint has been having some issues with security so it may be wise to avoid it. Debian and uBuntu are the beginner's distrubutions.
