Trollhunter - 9/10
I'm a sucker for the found footage and magical realism genres in general, and this film was particularly well put-together. I also can't help but respect horror films that manage to be unsettling without jump scares.
Pumpkinhead - 6/10
A good part of this was the standard "college kids go to a cabin in the woods" horror movie shtick, but it did have enough variety to it to keep it at least somewhat interesting.
Primer - 9/10
I really liked the model of time travel presented in this movie—I'd not seen anything like it beforehand. My only significant complaint was about the complexity of the plot progression; I had to pore over a fan-made timeline chart before it all fit together. Not that I dislike complexity in movies, but still.
The Evil Dead - 4/10
That "college kids trapped in cabin in woods" trope was pretty much the whole premise of this film, and the laughably cheesy special effects didn't do much to add to it.
Videodrome - 7/10
I'm not too big on some of the more graphic content in this one. Still, it does an excellent job of showcasing hallucinations and the breakdown of perceptual reality. Plus, I like the aesthetic of VHS tapes and equipment, which this movie features prominently.
