This Week:
I decided for Pokemon Gold this week, because of @[deleted] and the Moemon thread. Thought it might be a good idea to go with the small flow of Pokemon that is going on in #gaming, over in the Discord.
First, let's go over the categories real quick.
Like most Pokemon games, the only categories this game has are Any% and Any% Glitchless. The first one being, finish the game as fast as possible, glitches and exploits allowed. The second one, as the name implies, finishing the game as fast as possible, no glitches allowed.
As for the records,
the world record holder in Any% is UnderscorePoY, with a RTA (real-time) of 43 minutes and 1 second. Following him closely is VaultButler with a 43:29. When it comes to Any% Glitchless, the times already look quite different, with the current world record being 3 hours and 17 minutes, in-game time, by UnderscorePoY, followed by a four-way tie between Exarion, Sinstar, werster and Keizaron, all sitting on 3:20h.
When it comes to guides, there are multiple to choose from. For Glitchless maybe try using Keizarons Notes, if you wanna go with Totodile; or ryzikens Notes, if you wanna go with Cyndaquil. As for Any%, maybe try out Kylovics Notes or wersters Notes, which has a lot of RNG at the beginning.
In case you want to watch an Any% with a lot of commentary and a few explanations, I'd recommend to take a look at Shenanagans run from SGDQ2014.
As far as competition goes, this game has quite a bit. In Glitchless we have 26 people in total, with a difference of 1 hour and 8 minutes between first and last. In Any% on the other hand we have 33 runner on the Leaderboard, 26mins and 47secs seperating first and last place on the Leaderboard. Since both categories aren't seeing much action lately I'd say everyone how wants should try to bring some live back into it.
