Build me a PC!

So I've been having quite a few conversations about different PC builds, saving me money, better performance and everybody had something different to change. I'm not really all that tech savvy so it's really hard for me to decide when I'm getting so many different opinions on things/parts. So I've decided to make this thread where you more computer tech wizards will put together a computer for me and if possible leave a little reason why you choose what you picked (not necessary, just helps me decide on what I would like). Feel free to keep any parts that are in my build to use in yours as well!

There will be no need to add a PSU since I plan on carrying over my current one. It's a InWin Desert Fox Commander III 800W PSU. I also plan on carrying over my 1 TB HDD from my current computer.

So what I'm after:

Good performance
Silent and doesn't heat up
Be able to run games smoothly
Doesn't take up too much room (case wise)
I don't plan on Overclocking

I'm looking to spend no more than $2,000 AUD, which would be about $1,442 USD (if I'm not mistaken).

I'm also doing this to be able to run Fallout 4 and some other games, preferably smooth and ultra quality.

This looks pretty good! My only comment is: do you really need 16GB of RAM? Maybe you should just get 8GB and put the extra $70 into a better graphics card.

Went with the new 6600k for multiple reasons.

Newer architecture
Allows for upgrades in the future since all the newer processors will be built on Skylake
Has a slight single-core performance advatage over the 4690k
allows for fast, modern DDR4 ram
is actually cheaper than the 4690k right about now
Grabbed a rather large noctua cooler, since you wanted silence you could easily run this with the fans at low rpm with proper airflow
4X SP120s so you can run them all at low rpm, and have relative silence but still game.
LPX memory because personal preference.
350D case since you wanted a smaller computer overall.

If you're after silence, take a look at the Fractal Design Define Mini as well

1920x1080 is good enough for me, and I have been looking at them. They seem very nice.

Then for 60Hz, Rii's build looks pretty solid. Though I don't really know how quiet those corsair fans are, or how quiet the GPU cooler is for that matter, but at 0/low RPMs it should be pretty damn silent.
I assume you have a HDD as well? You might rather quickly struggle to make do with 256GB, at least, I would 😛

Yeah, I got that covered. I plan on carrying over my current 1 TB HDD to my next computer as well as my PSU. I'll just need to move a couple of things to my SSD when the time comes. I should have probably mentioned about the HDD in the actual post, going to update that now.

All of this together should cost you somewhere in the range of $600-$800 USD, possibly less. It's a hell of a deal compared to your original figure of $1400 though. Then you'll have lost of money left over for video games!

Seems like a solid idea, I'll pop around a few PC stores and see what they have to offer. Thanks for the tips, very much appreciated! <3

I'd say the 960 is a good card with 2 gigs of vram. But 2 gigs of vram is not really enough for today's triple A titles anymore.

I cut out the new Skylake cpu because it's not much faster than the previous gen. Same 22nm architecture as Haswell. I also took out the i7 and made it an i5 because hyperthreading isn't used (currently) in games. Kept the kickass samsung 850 ssd and the Gigabyte windforce 980. Got a kickass EVGA 750 watt gold rated power supply.
