So Christmas is coming up and I'd like to get a new keyboard that's actually good. I've tried a friend's mechanical keyboard and it was really nice to type in. Anyhow, I'm looking for suggestions. I'd like to know the name of the keyboard, the price, and the pros and cons. Thanks for the help ^^ I'd like to keep it under $100.

What I currently have . People tend to get elitist with their switches, but personally that is completely up to the person using the keyboard. I like blues, and they're wonderful. That keyboard also has Brown, Green and Red variants. Cherry MX Switches, all, excluding Green, are under $100.

I ended up going for a gaming keyboard but I was on a budget at the time, as I needed to get several other PC accessories as well. The one I got is a ROCCAT Isku for $70 USD, it gets the job done and has some cool shortcut keys like adjusting your volume, opening your browser, or minimizing all windows to return to your desktop. But it also came with this weird software that fucking talks to you when you turn on the computer. (it does this when selecting your "profile," or keybind settings, which happens automatically everytime Windows starts) I had to disable this, but other than that the keyboard has served me well for the past year. I know a lot of gamers like the mechanical keyboards by Razer, in particular the Black Widow . This one goes for $100 USD, and my stepbrother and one of my friends both own it so I've used it at their houses before. As far as functionality goes, the Black Widow is pretty much flawless. The keys are incredibly responsive and you can really feel it working at your fingertips, it's hard to describe. However, I've got one big complaint with Razer's mechanical keyboards. (not just the Black Widow, ALL of them) They are LOUD AS FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK. It clicks louder than any keyboard I've heard in my LIFE. And the worst part is if you are ever on skype or any voice chat service with someone who uses this keyboard, you will hear EVERY FUCKING THING THEY TYPE. EVER. It's annoying as hell, and the only reason I will never buy a Razer keyboard. But hey, maybe you're a sadist and love the idea of torturing your friends until their ears bleed. I'm gonna stay away from that shit!

I think I'll go for the ROCCAT one if the other one is no longer on sale Please bear in mind that this keyboard is kind of huge, like it's got somewhere between 3-4 inches for the handrest so it can take up a lot of space. I'm used to it now, but it was a little overwhelming at first because the desk I had when I got this PC was really tiny

I use the Razer Blackwidow stealth tournament edition. I dont want to switch to anything else

protip do NOT get a Das. Their quality has been slipping recently. The following are my opinions. MX blue = not for living with people, clicks are nice though. MX red = very light with no tactile response; too light, very easy to make mistakes while typing MX brown = like an MX red with a piece of sand stuck in it MX black = heavy reds MX green = heavy blues (I've heard they're louder too) MX clear = heavy browns (with a much nicer bump) If you want to test them all for yourself, many places (like WASDKeyboards and Max Keyboard) sell switch testers. Those are all the main switches. The brands I would recommend are Ducky, Filco, and whoever makes the poker keyboards. I trust these brands because of the quality of their products, as well as their use of genuine Cherry switches. Many keyboards nowadays will use Chinese knockoff switches. The problem is that we don't know about the durability of these. Cherry switches are QC tested for 50 million actuations, while the Chinese ones have no QC at all. We just don't really know yet. TL;DR: read the switch thing above, get a Ducky, Filco, or Pok3r with your chosen switches. Also I'm a fucking nerd.

I intentionally purchased a ThinkPad T420 over a T430 which has a better chipset and processor because the T430 introduced the chiclet style keyboard.
