I do not even know if 2D characters can ever feel the skin of 3D characters like us.
We can imagine what they look like with our minds, see them doing cute things by script, and we can reach them through REM sleep to change their scripts to our own wants.
They can imagine us what we are, they can see us doing cute things, they can only dream of us within the 2D boundary, but never physically breaking the fourth wall for safety reasons thanks to the 2D/3D boundary law that separates us.
Even if we are able to see 2D characters, get past their barrier, and change the scenery to make it look like we see through their vision, most of the time the outcome for them is this:
