Pretty much just setup my new laptop. Guess I have to step up my ricing game, don't even have a consistent color scheme. I wonder if I should go for i3-gaps, because screen-estate is pretty important to me.
I originally wanted to go for firefox-nightly cause that's pretty customizable, but firefox just seems to crash on me :/
How do you find i3? For me it was just too much work to get it set up, so I've just been sticking with GNOME. But then I eventually wanted to have a panel so now I've set up tint2, and I feel like at this point I should probably consider moving away from GNOME, since I'm not really using it's interface.
I really like i3, in that although it doesn't look all that fancy, it's very productive and customisable. Almost every pixel on my screen is dedicated to programs, not my window manager. You get a really handy status bar at the bottom too.
Compared to most tiling window managers, i3 seems to provide the best balance between easy setup and configurability. The default config file is enough to get you started and productive right away, but it can be edited to do almost anything.
Here's a screenshot of my i3 setup, note that workspaces with just one window remove the title bar, this is configurable too.
If you want help or a longer chat about i3, PM me on the forums, or even better on discord.
