Bokura No Kiseki (Our Miracle)
Introduction : Bokura no Kiseki is a manga written by Kumeta Natsuo. Its genres are action, drama, fantasy, school life, historical, mystery and supernatural. It is also tagged as gender-bender often because the story focuses on a princess being reincarnated as a boy. The princess is the girl in the cover(the picture above) and the guy is the one who she is reincarnated as.
Well, now that the introduction is done, here's my review: (Note that if I give something 5/10, then that means that it is average so scores above 8 are pretty good.)
Story (10/10): The plot focuses on a boy called Minami Harusumi who is reincarnation of a princess named Veronica. He believes his dreams to be recollections of his previous life. One day, as he is bullied for saying that he is a princess, he finally uses magic which he had avoided earlier because it was a power to kill people. The magic activates as he had imagined and he no more has doubts about his past. Thus, he tries to learn more about his past memories where Veronica's castle was attacked and she breathed her last. Soon, almost the entire of his class recover their memories of past, and each of those memories are related to Veronica's castle. The entire story is about the characters finding out about what actually happened back then in Veronica's castle.
The best thing about the story is that nothing is said or done in vain. Even the minutest of the details become immensely important later on, which is how an ideal mystery should be. Rather than having mysteries that are completely random, in Bokura no Kiseki, one can actually predict some stuff to certain extent if he reads with deep concentration. However, many of the times, the author lays traps so as to lead us astray. Despite telling the story in round-about way, Kumeta makes sure that she(author) has no plotholes(at least obvious ones) in the story.
Art (7.5/10) : The recent art is pretty decent, and even though the manga is being serialized since the year 2008, it has a good art at start. Kamioka, the only friend of Harusumi Minami during middle school looks somewhat like the heroine which can confusing sometimes. But, since Kamioka is a side-character who probably only appears once or twice per ten chapters, I doubt that anyone would be confused.
The older art is sometimes(uncommon) out of proportion. In a scene, where Veronica is sitting, the art is so out of proportion that one would think that if she got up, she would be eight feet tall. The recent art is pretty good with almost no defects, so overall, art gets a score of 7.5.
Characters(8.5/10): One thing that you need to keep in mind while reading Bokura no Kiseki is that it has many characters. It is stated that 67 people were present in castle of Veronica when it was attacked. Even if half of those were reincarnated, and even if half of those half were given screen time, its still a pretty big cast. As I've already stated, there's nothing in vain in the manga, so every one of these characters are important. Unless one read with immense concentration, he could easily get lost within such a big cast of characters because they are usually called by two names—name from the past and their current name.
Each character has a concrete personality. The author absolutely does not allow the story to force a character to do things that would go against the character's ideals.
Character development(7/10): Perhaps this is where Bokura no Kiseki fails. That being said, 7 is definitely not a bad score, because Bokura no Kiseki features over twenty characters in short intervals. 7 means that the character development is better than average even though Bokura no Kiseki has a fairly complex plot. Except for the hero and the heroine, there's not much development in other characters, but Kumeta does well with whatever space she gets. If you're looking for a story where a weak character develops into a strong character, I'm sorry, but you're at the wrong place.
Enjoyment(10/10): At first, I thought that the story was boring, but when I was past reading three chapters of the manga, I was in love with the manga. The reason for me finding the story boring in the first three chapters is definitely not because they were actually boring. The author had lays a premise in those chapters, which make the very foundation of the story. And trust me, the chapters only keep on getting better and better.
Overall : 8.6/10. (Remember 5 is my average, so according to me, 8.6 is a pretty goddamn high score.)
