If you're using Linux, what distribution, and why?

I'm currently using Debian on my server, and I'm trying out Elementary OS on my laptop. As a fan of Debian based stuff, Debian 9 is a pretty obvious choice for the server. As for the laptop, I saw EOS and noticed it was Ubuntu based, which in turn is debian based so I figured I'd give it a go. So far its extremely simple to use, and it looks nice out of the box, if there was a distribution I'd say could replace Windows for long time users, this is a solid option. Being basically just Ubuntu with a neato theme, its got plenty of support. I probably won't stick with it for too long though, I prefer mucking around with more basic variants when it comes to my home machines.

Antergros on my custom build, second drive, as a backup os. Sick of my ssd dying and then having no os to fix it.

Linux mint cause im lazy. Use to really like arch a lot and used that. But like i said really lazy.

Both my laptop and Samba server are running Debian 8.2 Jessie

I distro hop all the time but I usually end up back on debian. EOS was nice for the laptop but not quite what I was looking for. I haven't tried Arch yet but I'm sure I will sometime

Arch at home, Debian on the server. I like to follow elementary OS as well, so I have it on a spare partition.

I'm using Mint on my laptop to get the hang of it, but I might try to get Arch on it over winter break

I've already tried a lot of linux distro and my fav is Ubuntu.
Why? Because it's easy to use.

And Kali Linux is a great choice for any people include me who loves to learn the basic of hacking.

I have a dual-boot of win10/ubuntu set up on my home pc. Windows has a history of breaking at the worst times for me so I already have a backup plan.

Thanks man, I used to use Arch, but xorg broke so installed debian.

xorg broke for me multiple times, 100% of those times were because my awesomewm configs were fucked up.

Desktop : Win/Mint - I never really got around to installing arch on my desktop and I was using mint to get used to using a CLI interface again.
Old Laptop : Arch - Works fine but I still haven't found a use for.
Newish Laptop : Arch - School/Fun laptop.

I typicaly go for arch because there are a fair few opportunities to learn how things work.
On a side note, if anyone has any ideas for something to do with an old laptop let me know.

If you like learning how things work, gentoo would be great on an old laptop. It's very lightweight, you really only install exactly what you need, even in the kernel (you build it yourself.) The only thing is it takes a long time to install stuff because its all compiled from source right on the machine. This ends up meaning its really well optimized though.

As far as I know all my servers are running by Alpine Linux. I hate systemd, that's why I switched my servers from Arch Linux (yeah... rolling release on server was fun) to Alpine Linux some time ago.

My laptop still runs with Arch Linux. As soon as I get some time, I'll try Alpine Linux on it too I guess.
