What is everyone's favorite text editor and why? For me I'm usually switching between Emacs and Atom, and not really a text editor but Visual Studio when I have to shudders I like Emacs for the customization aspect, and I'm not sure why I like atom but some of the features that I like are mutli line editing, easy snippets, and pretty simple packaging system. I use the vim mode for both As for editor theme I use primarily solarized dark, but right now I using a Halloween theme because it fits the month better What does lewd use to edit text?

Im lazy and just use geany on linux and sometimes text wrangler on OS X. I started playing with atom a bit, but like why does it lag? It is the only text editor Ive used that lags.

Performance issues are because atom is built on electron I don't have any lag problems with it? When was the last time you used it? It has pretty bad performance issues but nothing to bad for me. To be quite honest I really only follow it because I feel like it will be great one day. Currently I can't recommend it, you are better off with Sublime Text 3 which Atom is almost a carbon copy of.

I use Atom and Sublime Text. I mainly use the monokai theme on both of them. 21145 because it's written in js and is not a native application.

Vim. It's what I know. I don't use syntax highlighting, so the theme is just whatever I have as fg/bg colors in my terminal.

21146 Its been about a week or two since i tried it. So not that long, when I use it on windows, basically unusable but that is understandable it is windows in a VM(but a vm with 4 gigs of ram and 2 processors with 100% execution cap). OS X the lag is not that bad but still lags a little. Text wrangler is basically sublime as well from what I understand, I have actually never sat down and used sublime, hear good things. Geany has been my editor of choice for a bit but lately ive been enjoying using OS X on my macbook, so text wrangler a lot lately. As for theme im using solarized dark on text wrangler and geany. Just used the default theme in atom when I was playing with it. 21147 That explains it.

I just use notepad it's pretty annoying at times tho

Sublime Text master race. At some point I used notepad++. Sublime Text is beautiful , though. I use 3, but 2 is alright too.

Sublime is nice all around. I'm getting into Vim, but it's hard to learn. Nano is really nice for basic stuff.

Besides, IntelliJ have their new C# IDE coming out soon, so I doubt I will use VS again.

I used to use vim for everything, but I've seen the light and I've gone head first into emacs, which is now my text editor, mail client, news reader, and (!) twitter client.

I was pretty astonished at how many things let you use emacs keybinds. Like safari for OS X lets you use the keybinds in text input. After seeing other people edit with emacs I've realised that learning it isn't just learning to use an incredible text editor, but learning to be more efficient at the keyboard in almost everything you do. So for me, that's made it worth learning.

I also use IntelliJ when I edit Java. Its not amazing, but its probably the best for Java. In general, I do like the JetBrains IDEs, though I wouldn't mind being free of them.

I have tried numerous times to switch to spacemacs/emacs and I guess I just don't have the patience to learn another editor

For Python, I use JetBrain's PyCharm IDE. For absolutely everything else, I tend to use Adobe's Brackets editor.

Vim for everything that isn't on Windows. Brackets for web development on Windows, and Sublime for all-around coding on Windows, even though it looks pretty disgusting on 7 and 10, even with customization.
