I got a laptop!

Hello!

From the title alone I would assume you know what I'm about to say. But your wrong...

I have had a laptop but I had it stored away in a box because I had my Win Tablet but I am feeling lonely without a leyboard and mouse so I had dug out my Chromebook Acer C7. Mine came with a 16gb SSD and 4gb of ram. I have upgraded it to have a 320gb HDD and 8gb of ram.

As of me typing this, I am currently installing Chrubuntu 12.04 LTS as it is the most stable on of them all with out UI lag! Which starts at 13.04 LTS.

I plan to use this device to watch anime, web browse and fix wi-fi problems...

It's nice to finally see a chrtomebook in the hands of an individual who knows how to use one... I work with far to many clients who are confused when they can't install various software on their stock chrome OS

@Lokorfi If you would also take my suggestion into consideration, I would suggest not getting one as they are a pain to work with.

Another reason is if you were to want to install a Linux distro, you would have problems as some Chromebooks are ARM based meaning you would need to find one that is combatable with mobile CPUs. The one I have is Intel based but its a Celron 874 1.8GHz. It's is nice but right now I'm having problems just getting it to load Ubuntu and I have had this problem as of making this post.

I would go for a Windows's version of the notebook.

But if you were to use it for jut online browsing then it's a nice machine for that.

@[deleted] As someone who's never used a Chromebook and most likely never will, how much would you recommend buying one?

yeah... what @[deleted] said....

The first an foremost are NOT computers in the sense of "you install software and go about your computing life." Think of them as you would a tablet. I'm strictly talking about out-of-the-box, before you modify the HDD or the OS. But anyway, they have their compatible "apps" and you are limited to working with the device within those confines. The people at my college cant use them because they cant install MS Office or the full version of Adobe Reader.

They are cool if you want to give one to someone who only wants to browse the web and use FB/Twitter/Netflix.... stuff like that.

Another advantage that is likely not relevant to any of you but is relevant to Chromebooks themselves is that it's good as a cheap laptop to give your employees. They've got Docs, spreadsheets and google presentations for free and can get added benefits with Google Apps For Work.

For a regular fella it's not very good, though :\
