VA-11 HALL-A

  • Kiss of Death 12-27-2016, 06:42 PM
    Hello.
I have recently picked up this game on Steam. It's called "VA-11 HALL-A Cyberpunk Bartender Action" and it's currently 15% off, since it's a moderately new release. I don't usually buy VNs on Steam, but this one was kind of... appealing. Here's the link: VA-11 HALL-A.
If you visited this link, you may have noticed the description of the game put there by the devs: "VA-11 HALL-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action is a booze em' up about waifus, technology, and post-dystopia life.". While it's catchy and simple to understand, it's also exactly what this game has to offer. In the game, you play as a female bartender called Jill, who got her entire bank account cleaned by a ghost (cause, you know, you have to start on an empty account right), recently learned the bar she works at faces a danger of closing down, and the entire place itself smells of dog urine and soap (cause last Friday there was a big clientele consisting entirely of Corgis - yes, Corgis, the dogs). Sounds quite ordinary for a VN, while also ridiculous enough to get you started, right? That's what I thought too.
Well, the game takes place in a cyberpunk kind of world, where Corgis drinking booze or 13-year-old-looking robot prostitutes are a normal sight. In there, your role is limited to sitting behind a counter of a downtown bar and serving what your clients order while also keeping them company to their drink, hearing their stories. Between the days you work at you can worry about yourself and your own problems - your needs (Jill has the things she wants too, and if she doesn't get them, she can become distressed) and everyday world problems (you get a phone, an app resembling The Times, a toned down version of 4chan and god knows what else).
If you wanted to know more, you can pick it up. I still haven't even finished it myself - I just wanted to share that this game is totally worth a look. It's really good, it takes itself seriously while also keeping you entertained with mixing drinks or randomly 'dank' or 'kek' quotes. Seriously, if this game had a counter for how many times I wanted to press F12 to screenshot the best quotes but couldn't because whoever saw it wouldn't have any context, that'd be way over 9000 by now. And I only played it for 3 hours.
If you're still not convinced, Steam reviews speak for themselves. If anyone else has played it... share your opinions below?

That's it from me, thanks for dropping by. I'll see you around now that I'm back.
Merry lewdmas and all. Sorry but this one's SFW so no ero scenes.
I'm finishing something you can fap to soon.

SFW is fine too.  This sounds pretty interesting and I may pick it up when it gets to 25% off.

Excellent game. I picked it up on GOG and it's writing is heavenly. Give it a spin, you won't regret it.

I remember seeing this game and preordering it. It was definitely worth the 5$ that it was back then. Playing through was great and I wholeheartedly recommend playing the prequel.

Welcome back my friend! It's good to see another friendly face :)

So bspeudopod mentioned something about invalid key which I did not know about. I haven't installed any Linux shit on this PC so I can't check it out myself. Sorry!
  • Hexd 12-31-2016, 01:08 PM
@bpseudopod could you post about it on this thread so we can find any fixes together? Also @lokorfi I think it'd be fine if you posted it the linux version on the thread i doubt copyright trolls will go this deep

I really didn't pay much attention to it when it first came out but it sure didn't take any time at all to win me over once I finally played it. So far it's quite laid back and relaxing to play; hell, the game itself says that getting comfy is the very best way to experience it.

It also works perfectly with wine if you can't get the Linux version to work.

Thanks, again. Not to come off as a complete linux noob, but how does one get this running? I'm used to installing everything through the package manager.

I'd rather not have wine installed as that opens up some different attack vectors I'd rather not have to worry about. Also, I want to try running this on a pi which I'd assume would run a lot slower if I installed played through wine

I ain't got the game (not yet, anyways), but I figured I'd let everyone know: There's an awesome app on the Play Store based off of  Jill's phone! :D

I dunno if the genuine article has news and the like, but the fanmade app apparently contains the game's soundtrack (accessible through a music player), and a primitive bulletin board system to interact anonymously with other users. All in all, pretty cool stuff! If you're a fan of the game, you should totes check it out. :3

    Here, have a link! - https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai....Vallhalla
