Yeah it was a nice upgrade from my FX8350, which itself wasn't a bad CPU. I wish I had held off on upgrading because like half a year later they got price reduced because of the new Ryzen processors, but if you're to upgrade to one nows the time in my opinion. You can get the CPU+MOBO for like $180 or less with some combos I've seen out there. Which is crazy considering I paid $220 for the CPU alone when I got it.

Either way I'm quite happy with it and probably won't have any need for an upgrade any time soon.

Wow, that post was back in 2015 haha. I have a different laptop now, but it's 10x worse than the one referenced in that post. It's been sitting in my backpack gathering dust and I don't want to go through the trouble of digging up the specs for it, so I guess I'll just post my new computer's specs.

    ● Windows 10 Pro 64 English
    ● 15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS anti-glare
    ● 16GB (8 + 8) DDR4 2400MHz
    ● Keyboard with Number Pad - English
    ● 720p HD Camera with integrated microphone
    ● 500 GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm, SATA3, 2.5"
    ● 3 Cell Li-Polymer 45Wh (feels like 2Wh)

    Changes since then:
    • Battery at 93.1% capacity
    • 2048x1152 SyncMaster replaced with a brand new colour calibrated Dell U2415 16:10 display
    • Keyboard is now an Aukey KM-G9 with outemu blue switches, keycaps replaced with blank DCS Classic 1980s caps. I much prefer the 80% to the 65% keyboard.
    • Mouse is now a Logitech MX Master 2S

One ardous, nightmare of a setup process later and here I am.

    OS: Windows 7 64-bit - Home Premium
    CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X @ 3.6 GHz
    Motherboard: MSI B450 Tomahawk
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
    RAM: 16GB DDR4 @ 2666
Storage: 1TB WD Blue HDD, 250GB WD Blue SSD, 3TB WD My Book
Peripherals: Simple USB keyboard and mouse

I briefly took the 10-pill after experiencing issues with Windows 7 but unfortunately my trick with the activation key didn't quite work. The 10 installation did help me to properly install Win 7, fortunately enough. There wasn't anywhere on the motherboard to put my sound card so I'll need to look for a new one as the onboard audio is a bit finnicky. Very happy with the build so far.

That's awesome man, I'm so happy to hear! :D

The 1060 is a great card, and the big SSD gives ya tons of space for a twitchy shooter like R6: Siege. Kinda surprised you'd invest in a sound card, though. Without being there myself, I'd reckon the motherboard has ya covered.

More importantly, what's the first game you're gonna play? ^^

I used Civ V to break it in. Ran at max settings without a hitch and most importantly (to me anyway) there was no increase in the sound coming from my machine. It's so much quiter. I think I'll get Wolfenstein going next as I've had it on PC and PS3 for years but couldn't stand playing it on either platform.

I'll have to look more into trying to fix my sound issue as it seems the onboard audio is pretty decent.

Edit: What the fuck, it seems to be working fine now.
