It's always confidence inspiring to hear coil whine in your PSU that sounds like arcing.
  • LucianDreamer 12-16-2018, 10:59 AM (Edited 12-16-2018, 11:12 AM)
What I have here is my old school wooden workdesk that never gets old, Logitech speakers, keyboard and mouse, and an auto backup power supply unit in case of blackouts. I have a modem with four slots (4 computers fit for a family of four), a router as my overall connection indicator, running on Windows 7, a highly sophisticated single HDMI LED Senseye 3 4k monitor, and my tower is CM STORM. Inside my workdesk's only storage cabinet are all my school supplies, a few important memories from my younger years, and a few additional storage containers.

Sorry, I have no pics depicting my two floor apartment room, but to my interpretation, it feels kinda small but neater and not as claustrophobic than most people's stations. The room I am occupying now all to myself was used by someone else years before I moved in, so the condition back then was a tad bit terrible, they even tend to smoke and messed up one of the two windows a little.

EDIT: Ah, here it is, nothing too fancy with my desktop background.

My workstation lacked a certain degree of RGB aesthetic, so I decided I'd grab the extra-large version of the Cooler Master MP750. It's rather primitive, supporting only solid colors, but it's big enough to accommodate a full-size keyboard and mouse. I've found it works best on a black desk, where in dimmer light it resembles a ring of inlaid LEDs.

See that little partition behind Kirino? That's actually the case's version of a PSU shroud. That giant hole on the left is meant to accommodate add-on brackets for a mITX system or a secondary PSU, but I haven't been able to find the plain backplate to cover it again. ^^'7

And I just really didn't like my cabling job, honestly. Luckily the sun came out, so I was able to touch things up and get a really nice shot of Kiririn and Misaka. This one, I'll keep. c:

Right, though? My original plan was to use it as a streaming PC/NAS host, but that kinda fell through after I discovered the joy of SATA controllers. I do still plan on getting crazy with this thing, though. First a triple-radiator open loop in this case, then a 156 TB watercooled Linux server in another. Mind, I don't expect to accomplish the latter till the very end of the decade. ^_^'

    redacted

But Misaka will get cold! How come the PSU isn't where it normally is~?

Aside from the halo taped on there, it looks good!

    But why redacted indeed~

See that little partition behind Kirino? That's actually the case's version of a PSU shroud. That giant hole on the left is meant to accommodate add-on brackets for a mITX system or a secondary PSU, but I haven't been able to find the plain backplate to cover it again. ^^'7

And I just really didn't like my cabling job, honestly. Luckily the sun came out, so I was able to touch things up and get a really nice shot of Kiririn and Misaka. This one, I'll keep. c:

Ooh, it looks much nicer in this light! And yes, it looks far better without that fan ^_^'

When you say add-on brackets for a mITX system, do you mean like, a *second* PC? Because that would be insane lol

Woah, you planning on starting a hugely successful youtube tech channel or something? 156 TB!

That's quite a lot of free space there~ I don't think the figurines will even take it all up!

The waifus add an additional 40 FPS.

... yes, it's horrendous. Especially the Phanteks Halo fucking taped to the GPU power cable. I kinda had to limit myself to avoid migraines. But at least I know this case was worth it. ^~^

Hah! Naw babw, more like split them into three 4-disk RAID 6 arrays (Try saying that five times fast.) of swashbuckled anime, and use the remaining 12 TB disk for a web server and NextCloud. I'd likely never fill it, so maybe I'd cordon off individual terabytes for my friends. Double that for you. c:

Of course, this is kind of the definition of a halo project. I'll need that cash if I move somewhere. ^^'

Hmm, my my only issue with having 4 disks in a RAID6 setup is that you're losing half the storage to redundancy. Well, not like you'll be short on storage anyway, but it does seem rather cost ineffective!

And thank you for the future concern! As long as my GSuite account isn't banned, I shouldn't need the extra offsite storage, but ya never know~

Ah yes, the moving out dilema. I am also finding it very frustrating >_<

(I wonder how deep 2lewd can go with nested quotes~)

Just gonna steal @malmon's layout, buut with a twist!

Unlike the folks before, I'm also gonna share my personal use for the system, my philosophy whilst building it, and how it's performed thus far.

I don't wanna be the gal just screaming out into the void, though. You guys don't hafta share a giant post like this, but I wanna hear you guys tell me about your personal systems too, and what they mean to ya, 'kay? ^^

    Name of System
    • Cotton Candy
    Purpose and Philosophy
    • Who says you can't have it all? When I bought a full-tower case, I knew from the start that I'd be pursuing the absolute maximum amount of performance at the minimum cost necessary. Nearly every component in this build has a much more expensive "premium" alternative, but when some savvy shopping will save ya a thousand bucks in the long run, it's well worth it.
    • Color me weird [pun intended], but I've always believed that RGB LEDs oughta be functional before they look cool. There's a reason I've stayed away from "rainbow puke" effects and stuck with solid colors, since it lets me inspect motherboard headers whenever the case is open.
    Performance Results
    • In the end, though, the system's main purpose is to play games and render anime at 144 frames per second. Both of those are CPU and GPU-intensive tasks, so I've done my best to maximize airflow whist minimizing cable clutter. I'd reckon it works well. ^^
