[block]Known as #ButtGate, because people on the internet need to stick the word "Gate" next to anything controversial, Blizzard has been receiving heat for removing a victory pose for the character Tracer from its Overwatch Beta. Shitlords and anti-SJWs were livid at the thought that this pose was removed as result of a single, lone soul crying out from her safe space -- myself included! We had every right to be upset. Various Social Justice groups have been acting as self-proclaimed media censors for several years now. The fact that we could live in a world where a single forum post could be enough to deem a mandatory change for everyone.... well, that would be shit!

Swiggity Swooty! SJW's gonna censor that booty!

We were wrong. It wasn't about that--not at all. Now, Blizzard claimed they were going to remove that pose anyway, but we didn't believe them. Why should we? We've heard it all before, "Blah, blah we felt it was the right thing to do, blah, blah nothing to do with the constant berating of the Social Justice Censor Squad..." It's time for some proof! Tuesday night Blizzard dropped a patch. One of the new additions: A brand new over-the-shoulder pose for Tracer! And, in my humble opinion, it's a far superior one! The original pose made her butt stretch oddly. This new one keeps her butt in a well-rounded, bootylicious package! It's great! This was a PR disaster that Blizzard has turned around in its favor.

    So much yes!

Now what about that original post which set the interwebs ablaze? You can read it here. But before you click that link ready to post replies boasting about how SJWs have lost this battle, slow down for a moment. Forget SJWs exist for 5 minutes. Read the article with an open mind. The poster only explains that the pose doesn't really suit the character. It gets a tiny bit cringe worthy, but she isn't saying it's too sexy. There is no mention as to how this pose creates a gender pay gap and was orchestrated by the patriarchy. All that is mentions is how it's generic and seems like a bit of a stereotypical cop-out. I still don't think anyone should apologize. This sort of thing has happened before, and I had to pay extra to import DOAX3 becasue Tecmo didn't want to deal with people bitching about an American release. >_< For now, let's just be happy that Blizzard did right by their fans, and this one instance was all a misunderstanding :)

uh, a lewd picture of C.C. drawn by Code Geass' character designer Takahiro Kimura sold at auction for 830,000 yen ($7,670 USD). While she's my second favourite anime character, I can't see myself ever spending $8k on the picture:

[block]Hello there people of Lewd. It seems to have been a while since there was an entry related to technology in the news, and so here's a fix.

Some of you may have heard this already, but as part of the summer anniversary update for Windows 10, Microsoft will be implementing the Bourne Again Shell, natively. This is huge, especially for power users. Some of you may be asking, why does this matter? Windows has batch already.

Bash comes standard with most Linux distributions, and it's practically embedded within the *nix community. Chances are that if you're speaking to someone who has even remotely worked with anything unix based, they've worked with bash.

This is being made possible by Canonical. Maybe you've heard the name, maybe you haven't, but if you haven't, Canonincal is the reason one of the most popular and user friendly Linux based operating systems is around, Ubuntu.

Fluff aside, what does this mean for Windows? Well, because the bash shell is native, you will be able to run commands and execute binary files that were previously restricted to *nix based operating systems. This also means even more cross compatibility, and possibly even more customization of the Windows box. Developers can now write applications that will execute (hopefully) flawlessly between major operating systems, and in terms of customization, there could possibly be some sort of X implementation (or Wayland, mir, whatever pops up) on Windows, allowing for desktop environments and window managers (though personally, I doubt that this will happen, because it seems to me that Microsoft attempts to force you to adhere to their user interface). In a recent video by the Microsoft developer team, a Windows "subsystem" is being shown, and from what I gathered, this is what looks like a full-blown unix filesystem embedded within Windows. Everything from the root directory to bin and sbin. There is even a /home/ directory. Directly from the video itself, the subsystem is run in a usermode, at least that's what it is called in Microsoft's terminology. And because of the canonical partnership, a lot of core components are borrowed from Ubuntu 14.04, and any commands calling data from the operating system return with Ubuntu's name.

Bash has been around for a while, and Windows has as well. Let me just put this into perspective for you: Windows is ~30 years old, and bash has been around for ~25 years. I've never personally been more excited for anything remotely Windows related after switching to Linux, but I might just try out Windows 10 for this alone. I think this will also be beneficial for more than just developers, however. If you've ever wanted to try Linux, perhaps not switch to it, you can get a taste of what it feels like.

Just a side note for those who are ripping their hair out because I refer to Linux as if it were an operating system: I'm fully aware it's a kernel. I'm referring to it the way I am to be user friendly, and to make this more graspable to the average user.

We can attribute this to the community. Without average Joe's like you and I speaking their minds, we might not have had bash come to Windows. This ladies and gents is why you should never be afraid to voice your thoughts, even to a multibillion dollar international company. Now for my life to be complete we just need Mozilla and Chromium/Google Chrome to implement backdrop filters in stable versions of each respective browser.[/block]

I've started to get back into working on Lewd! I hope to bring some cool shit to the forum pretty soon.

If you haven't checked it out yet, Eternal is doing pretty well.

We're slowly creeping towards 40k posts, will we reach 40k before Eternal reaches 10k? c;[/block]

I can't help myself but only feel worry at the headlines on Microsoft working together with Canonical. This would not be the first time Microsoft adopts an open standard just to add proprietary features in an attempt to kill off the original. In fact, their adoption of bash looks alarmingly like the "Embrace" step in their "Embrace, Extend, Extinguish" scheme.

At least this time they'll have to deal with the GPL. While this is no guarantee that they won't add features tied to the Windows ecosystem, it still highlights the need for copyleft licenses.

Let's just hope my worries are for nothing, but I have a hard time believing in a company that has been shown to employ evil and anti-competitive strategies in the past.

oh, also. I made it so that anyone can join the loli usergroup without having the owner to accept new members; seeing as the owner is inactive.

I too, agree that the change in Tracer's pose was for the betterment of mankind.

The new one does her backstory so much more justice.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: My main beef with WinX is that it breaks compatibility with a bunch of legacy games. Bash is kinda neat I guess, but that alone ain't enough to make me jump ship.

My main issue with it is that it thinks it knows best - I have very little control over the operating system.

Bash to windows doesn't make sense from a linux perspective. Yes windows users get all the benefits and none of the downsides of bash, but it still doesn't fix the lack of security or data mining built into windows 10 (and ported to 7/8)

Why would they not get any downsides to it? Windows will more than likely inherit bash vulnerabilities, and just imagine if bash was on Windows when shell shock was just found. If anything, it only adds to the lack of security.
