    Fancy~. What're you rockin', Mal-kun? :3c

Got a Dr. Ząber Sentry 2.0 waiting for parts ^_^ Probably won't get around to building until I at least have my own place though.

Ho-ho, slimline! What made you depart from the typical mid-towers, cutie? Going for a more organic aesthetic?

Also, I had to nix my order for the HAF X. I won't build a case unless it supports quiet fans, and sadly the 230-mils it sports have little in the way of aftermarket options. I reckon I'll just buy an E-reader for my manga instead. ^_^

E-reader for manga? Do go on, I am interested.

In the meantime, it's that time of year again: CES! Anyone spot anything particularly interesting so far? One thing that's caught my eye is Dell's little Nintendo Switch sized gaming PC. Granted, I'm disappointed that they're not sporting AMD's integrated Vega graphics, but it's a start, because that thing looks pretty dang cool.

Nn, nnn! I ended up opting for the Kobo Forma since it's the largest in its family. The company's real nice about supporting users outside their ecosystem, so it supports third-party EPUBs, PDFs, CBZs, and even loose images like JPEGs; real important for scanlations. There's plenty of reviews floating around, but I'll post an update after I get it in the mail. c:

I've never had an e-reader, though I really love e-ink displays! I've kinda been sitting on an idea to make a sort of laptop thing with an e-ink display, but the large ones are kinda expensive.

Decided to look into it again... over 800 USD for a 13.3" development kit. Geez.

    https://shopkits.eink.com/product/13-3%c...-ed133ut2/
    https://shopkits.eink.com/product/ice-driving-board/

You know, that woulda been real cool as a dynamically-updating to-do list I could put on my wall. For eight-hundred bucks, though? It might be cheaper just to develop better habits. >-<

Hehe, yeah. Or like, a paper-like digital poster thing~ Especially if it's a colour display!

I've been thinking about upgrading my mom's laptop with an SSD. She's surprisingly been not-terrible towards me in recent months, and she's on her computer literally the entire time she's home. I figure it's the least I could do, you know?

As long as she's not the sort to then blame you for everything that goes wrong with the laptop ten years down the line, go for it ^_^

I'm hoping she'll have a replacement by then! Maybe the gaming laptop I used back in college. Granted, a GTX 1070 and an (admittedly crappy) i7 quad-core might be overkill for a web browsing machine, even five years from now (to wit, the 980 Ti released in '15 and is still a valid option today), but it's better than the even crappier i3 in her current machine.

Also! In other news, I've been kicking around replacing the 5700 XT reference card's blower cooler, be that purchasing a hybrid kit with a small 140x140mm rad, to purchasing an entirely different version of the card with a quiet cooler and higher clock. In the end though, the cost of a new 5700 XT is already two thirds the cost of a basic custom loop (at least according to EKWB), so I reckon I'll opt for that. ^_^

My concern with the gaming laptop would be rather poor battery life! Though I suppose that wouldn't matter if it's just a stationary laptop~

If the 5700 XT is anything like the 290X iit probably isn't~), a water cooler definitely would be a benefit. It wouldn't *have* to be a custom loop. Maybe that NZXT adapter would work?

In the end, given how tough it is to change stuff with my migraines currently, I just decided to spend my last paycheck on a 5700 XT Red Devil from PowerColor. Insofar it's turning out to be whisper-quiet, and the gigantic backplate makes a great display area for nendoroids! ^~^

Also... Even as someone who swore by air-cooling, I'm shocked by how much airflow matters with temps. Moving the Red Devil so it was in the bottom PCIe slot (and not right up against the NH-D15), I saw a 10° drop in temperatures under multi-core load, and a whopping 25° drop under idle. This heatsink really needs cold air to work best, it seems...

Decided to drop some money on upgrading my mic setup, because why not? Audio interface and mic stand arriving today, with the mic itself arriving later

Oooh, 5700 XT. Let me know how it performs!

Yeah, it's surprising. I noticed my CPU temperatures drop a lot when I replaced my GPU cooler with an AIO.

I was poring over the manual to my motherboard, the MSI x570 Gaming Edge WiFi, when I noticed something really odd. Apparently on the south-end, right by the two USB 2.0s, there's this rather unassuming header labeled JCOM1, apparently for a Serial Port.

Like, I'm not gonna knock an extra feature, but it just seems so random honestly. Like if Gigabyte threw a Floppy header on their next flagship board. xD

Finally settled on the specs for my current build in the Luxe 2. It's gonna cost more than a pretty penny (though it'll take me a while), and I did have to break my no-watercooling rule for a 360mm AIO, but on the bright side this lets me fit at least four Nendoroids comfortably throughout a well-lit case. I can't wait to get started. ^~^

Ohohohoho, you have no fucking idea, mate. Probably the biggest headache out of everything is the ARGB fan frames I use to highlight Misaka and her friends. Since they're all Daisy-chainable, you'd think they'd be simple until you end up with a thicket of thin black wires that you can't even stuff anywhere without untangling and carefully threading the chain in a zig-zag all throughout the back of the case.

It's gotten to the point where I've started drafting actual diagrams to plan out cabling. Sad to say, but I think I'm gonna have to drop fifty bucks on a pair of ARGB hubs to clean up the mess. =_=

This actually looks pretty good. Wish I planned out my cabling more like this, but I kinda winged it.

Been thinking for a while about purchasing those "Strimer" RGB cable extensions from Lian Li. But like, for that price, I could buy a whole 1 TB SSD. Or, y'know, spend it on something more responsible. >_<'

I've been putting some serious thought towards building a custom watercooling loop in my current chassis... It's got ample space for radiators, and I bet it'd make a kickass rig for folding@home if I put both my 5700XTs in waterblocks. But like, wouldn't that mean spending a titanic amount of cash? I guess that card will be obsolete by then, so I could put it in a server downstairs... >~<

Apart from that, I'm also thinking about making my own router via pfSense, some network adapters, and an ATX board I have laying around downstairs. Might be fun to get the flying pancake off the ground again, heh. ^~^

I was thinking of doing the same with opnSense! Let me know how it goes.

Do you have a redundant array of some sort?

I'm gonna be out of action for a little while, some parts of my PC are being dated despite having served beyond their limits since the late 2000's and never died out. When I get back mid-June in time for my 24th year, my PC would wake itself up more lively than ever and on the Windows 10.

    Backup storage is expensive, though!

*shuffles aside the $170 she spent on RGB fan frames* >~>'

I do not, though I should try dabbling in it eventually.
