Welcome to hardware general. Here we will discuss computer related hardware including every nook and cranny that goes along with that (drivers, pros, cons, etc).

Around the beginning of March I will have enought money to buy /this/!

Is there anything you're saving up for?

Nice, I've been tempted to buy a 970 myself, but I always end up spending my money on other things.

Same here. I've been wanting to get a better processor for some time now.

I have a whole rig planned out, but have never accumulated enough money to purchase it.

I'm almost certain that my list of parts are obsolete now. :D

Still debating whether I should spend my budget on a PC build or save up more for a car. Hard decisions.

Would you happen to recall what brand that was? I've been fond of Western Digital, but I'm curious what's most (and least)-reliable these days.

It was a 3TB Seagate - one of the least reliable drives of all time. It's honestly amazing that it survived as long as it did.

WD and HGST (which I think are now owned by Toshiba) are generally the most reliable, with WD red drives probably being the best out of the WDs. That being said, I think Seagate are a lot better than they used to be, and they certainly have some more interesting options in the higher (10+ TB) capacity range.

Yeah, I noticed mine had a bunch of uncorrectable sectors or so, so I knew it didn't have long left.

In other news, I ordered a Dr Ząber Sentry case. Hopefully I'll be able to afford to do something with it by the time it arrives >.<

Nn, nnn! I was actually thinking of throwing some WD Reds in a cheap computer case, but I figured it was easier to just buy another My Book. I have a seedbox I use exclusively to stream anime from, and they work wonderfully.

On another note, I just got my first 144 Hz monitor a few days ago! And insofar, it's been great. I can't really run any games that high without turning down the graphics settings, but 100-120 is fine for my purposes. ^^

Hehe, I know the 144Hz pain. Oh well, hopefully I'll manage to get a job and I'll be able to afford to drive my monitor properly as well!

Interesting. Is it your boot drive? Mine was just for data, and there weren't really any symptoms - it just suddenly stopped responding to io operations half way through a LaTeX compilation

Yeah it's my boot drive, I have my OS and data in that disk, nothing else, I'm going to buy an SSD to put it as my OS drive, but I don't know when I'm going to do it.

Ideally before your HDD kicks the bucket, which'll likely be within ??? days

My 500GB Seagate is still kicking after about seven years. I bought a Western Digital 1TB last year because I was worried it was about to fail but it's still going.

I've had a 1TB WD Black going for 10 years now. It's not plugged in atm though.

Thinking of upgrading to a Vega 56, but right now I'm gonna focus on getting that Rift S. IT's gonna be my first VR device, so I'm pretty pumped!

Also need to find a new CPU. Gonna wait a bit before dropping some money on the R5 2600.

Actually to be honest I probably won't upgrade until I get a nicer monitor. RX 580

Hmm, would the upgrade to a Vega 56 really be worth it? I'm not familiar with how the two cards compare
