Javascript (Node.js). I don't really care that much about the features, but the syntax and stuff. JS takes everything great about Java and C style programming and removes everything terrible. Use a good set of libraries (node.js) and you're good to go. I find JS essentially python with brackets.
However, I use Unity + C# for game development. JS is a pretty good scripting language, but I wouldn't write my games in it.

Also, GML is not a terrible language.

I love ruby, it's so nice and easy to develop in. If you want a fast ruby, check out crystal.

It's a good langauge though, feels like ruby yet is statically typed, compiled and null safe.

I have reccently started a project in C and I'm loving it.

PHP and JavaScript. Although I haven't tried very many languages yet...
  • _____NOBODY 02-28-2016, 07:43 AM
I really love using Scheme/Common LISP and C. The LISPS just gives you so much control and are just so much fun to play with. C is cool simply because of it's complexity and literalness, really puts you on a different plane of thought.

I personally really like c. And no I'm not a masochist

I'm slowly starting to love crystal, definitely one of the newer languages I want to see take off.

"The compiler is written in Crystal."
That for some reason blows the hell out of my mind.

    crystalception.

you can compile the compiler in preparation for compiling another compiler for compiling.
  • tn5421 03-01-2016, 08:26 PM

Apparently it only took them a weekend to port their compiler from ruby to crystal, and the compiler found a bug in itself when they tried!
  • tn5421 03-02-2016, 07:25 PM
So compilers are learning the art of self-meta?

That's just fucking great. How long until they obtain sentience? (only partially sarcastic)

Casual. When I was just a lad, all I used was a CPU, 2 wires, and a 3 volt battery!
