'Cleaning Out the Attic'

    Have any of you guys looked through your storage recently and found anything you'd completely forgotten about? I know I do this all of the time, but I bring it up because on my shitposting thumb drive I found this .wav (converted it to mp3 so it plays in the browser) from about 2 years ago, when I got a new mic to play vidya with friends, and wanted to 'test' it.
    Worth noting there was also about 10 seconds of silence after I'd started recording which I cut out.

    Yeah. I know. You can stop laughing now.

    Anyway, I'd like to see if you lot have any gold laying around anywhere, cute stuff, embarrasing shit or otherwise.

    and please be gentle ;-;

    I go through my liked YouTube vids every now and then. Aside from that I deleted most of my old shit in my random folder so nothing to post from that. If I had my 2TB HDD still I'm sure I could dig something up :(

    Went to the bottom of my liked videos and found a video I have no recollection of liking. I don't know why I did, but it's there. Don't judge me.

    I can parrot that sentiment.

    Though this is from a rather new YT account, because I lost the password to my old one ;;

    Logged into my YouTube for the first time in about six months to fish around for random things in the Liked playlist and found these two videos. I heard them first from a Top 35 Myths in video games or whatever and gave them likes so I could easily keep track of them.

    And this one I'm sure came from when I was interested in /x/ related stuff for a little bit some years back:

    My computer is a fucking mess. I'm a total digital pack-rat, so I've found everything from H-games, to entire compendiums of novels, to forgotten games I'd touched once and never returned to.

    My external drives are even worse. I got my first one back in '08, so browsing through it is like taking a trip back in time. I'm talkin' ancient memes, with watermarks from sites that don't even exist anymore. Given that I really got back into anime around late '09, and that I haven't touched most of these files since then, an astute historian could probably chart my gradual descent into weebdom.

    Data hoarding is awesome. I'm probably gonna have to invest in a ZFS or BTRFS setup at some point in the not so distant future.

    I clean out my drives too much for me to be relevant here :(

    BTRFS is the shit tbh. Just stay away from raid5 and raid6 because it's fucked. All the other modes including raid1 work great. Regarding ZFS vs BTRFS, ZFS has more features and is more mature, yet is inflexible and somehwat confusing. BTRFS is flexible but can fuck you in the ass if you use stuff like the ext4 converter or anything involving parity (raid5/6, they fucked up their code). I can personally say BTRFS has served me well, and enables you to use much cheaper hardware than ZFS. Besides, you are keeping a backup of important data regardless... right? Neither BTRFS or ZFS will prevent your home from burning down.

    @RX14 I want to setup a good backup system so i can make sure all my files are safe, could you help a pleb get one running? I use ubuntu-gnome and a macbook pro and want to backup some large files across a couple external hard-drives so just in case one fails the data is still safe.

    Hardest part about cleaning out old drives? Finding stuff you'd feel comfy deleting. My personal archives date back before my earliest memories. Vaporizing anything substantial here would feel like a cardinal sin.

    Feel this way about any files I have. I barely clean out anything in those old things.
