Attack on Titan: Live-Action Movie

Well, this is a thing. Production looks good, but will it live up to the series name?

Differences from the manga and movie, taken from comments:

Quote:1. Eren's personality
Eren is frightened by Titans in the movie, unlike in the manga, where he swears to kill all the Titans and thinks he is strong enough to do so. The reason is that Hajime Isayama himself asked the producers and writers if Eren could be different, not the shonen manga hero like he is supposed to be.

2. Eren + Mikasa
In a normal movie, there's always some romance. In the movie, Mikasa helps Eren get over his fear of Titans.

3. Setting change
The movie takes place in Japan, unlike the anime and manga, which takes place in Germany. It's a Japanese movie, so they need Japanese characters to be played by Japanese actors.

4. Levi's absence
Again, it takes place in Japan. The "v" is not normal in Japanese, so instead of changing his name, which they thought would disappoint a lot of fans, they decided to eliminate his character altogether. A completely different character replaced his role.

5. Armin's hair
They changed it because the movie takes place in Japan. But WHY DID THEY CHANGE IT THIS MAKES ME REALLY DISAPPOINTED

There will be a sequel to this movie, called Attack on Titan: End of the World.

EREEEEEEEEEEEN

I will say, it looks interesting. Rather cheesy, but interesting. I hope it's good, but I don't have very high expectations. (As in, it'd be great if it turns out to be good, but I don't really expect it to be.)
I like that they made it happen in Japan to have the casting and language make sense, instead of going "uhhh... immigration policies?"
Also, acting as one of the titans in this movie must've been really fun.

I'm not really expecting much out of a Japanese live action movie, but this one holds initial promise. Hopefully, it will live up to it.

I hated the anime, but I'll probably watch this for a laugh. The CGI is just...
funny.

I just don't really like live action films.

The CG stuff looks jenky, but it IS a Japanese film, and for that, it looks really impressive. I do really look forward to this though. Bad or good, I will watch any live action thing based on a game or anime.
Armin is supposed to look like a girl to accent his feeble beta character. And also he can dress up with Mikasa like this:

Looks promising.

And it'll also on my local cinema on my country.
@garett Cheers, Indonesia.

4. Levi's absence
BYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, fucking shitty movies, they always do do, never found good anime movie, won't even bother to try to watch it.
• Cloudy 07-30-2015, 10:03 AM
Fuck this, it won't even be good at all.
1) Eren is a pussy
2) Love interests in AON?
3) LEVI ISN'T THERE!?!!

Well, Levi's one of the main people, isn't he? I'm sure that he'll definitely be there, he's just not in the trailer.

And yes, Eren is a big pussy. Ughhh

Again, read the quote in the opening post for reasons why Levi isn't there, what's gonna happen to his character, etc.

OH sorry I did not see that part. Well that's going to backfire, at least I think so.

So they just replaced his role or completely eliminated from the movie?

I really enjoyed the anime, and even more the manga
since it turned a lot more political and with a deeper plot isntead of just eren being an angry kid with an uncontrollable power
and try to keep up to date with it.

Though the live action movie looks interesting I think they need enhance the speed of the movement while using 3D maneuver gear since it seems incredibly slow compared to the actual thing, and it's not as thrilling.
• Orion41 08-13-2015, 10:29 AM
Welp, that's out of my watch list.
• Sora 08-16-2015, 10:54 AM
I watched it in the cinema since it's out on my country already. It's very different from the anime and manga. I'll put my thoughts in spoiler tag, but it isn't that major, just the major differences:
• Most of the characters are useless, mostly Mikasa and the Levi replacement doing the work
• Not much action scenes
• Eren is even more of a wimp than I thought
• Story takes a different turn, basement is not introduced etc
• Eren gets NTR'd by the Levi replacement
