I was so surprised when you said that you JUST watched Death Note xD

OT, I also recommend Psycho-Pass.

Jesus, you have no idea how much shit I went through after watching Psycho-Pass. Has that movie finished airing in Japan yet?

this one? http://myanimelist.net/anime/21339/Psycho-Pass_Movie

if so, yes. It aired in January :P and I still have to watch season 2 and the movie ;-;

Thank you to all staff of lewd for keeping up with such an amazing site.

I've got a few picks. They're the same ones I suggested to my friends.

Deadman Wonderland (Very enjoyable. It has a story that can appeal to pretty much anyone. I'd suggest this to anyone who I know likes action and gore.)

Code Geass (Not as easy to follow, but it too is very enjoyable. Again, I feel like it doesn't take a specific person to like it.)

Golden Time (This is one I'd be much more likely to suggest to a girl. It was my first anime, but I highly doubt most of my guy friends are a fan of romance. It's easy to watch, and can be a good introduction to anime cliche, etc. Not too offputting.)

Sword Art Online (Don't lynch me plz. I know that it's pretty much the laughing stock off the community, however, it's one of the most known shows for a reason. People make fun of it because it's so mainstream, and it's easily related to those who watch like 5 series then call them self otaku, but, that's for a reason. Even though it has a lot of flaws, it's easy to enjoy.)

It sucks, there are so many shows that I enjoy much, much more than these, but I know that they'd probably be offputting to a newbie.

I usually recommend Code Geass, but Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso seems like a better recommendation now. I recently recommended it to a friend and he changed how he perceives anime now.

Well if they don't have a type of genre they like I would recommend horror and the anime H.O.T.D because if they like horror that is defiantly the one to watch first!

I'm not sure, It's a hard choice between Natsuyasumi and some generic cute girls doing cute things anime. I'll probably go with Natsuyasumi.

I think anyone can enjoy the movies of Studio Ghibli especially Spirited Away. If they want a more action-packed anime, I would suggest Accel World, SnK and/or Shakugan no Shana. For comedy, I suggest that they should watch Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou and/or Hayate no Gotoku. And of course, for anime feels, they should watch Clannad, AnoHana and/or Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso.

Update:
ToraDora and/or Golden Time if they want romance anime. :3

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann proved middling in the Japanese market, but here in the States it really struck a chord with the community. I'd chalk it up to a difference in culture. Regardless, if you had one chance to give someone an idea of what anime's all about, this is the show to watch.

Mirai Nikki is a good starter. It was actually my second or third anime I had seen, other than the super popular ones

I'd prolly try to show multiple sides of it, so I'd recommand to watch Another, Code Geass, Clannad/Anohana and Durarara in one or two weekends or during holidays. Death Parade would be an option as well. The main problem is probably to find something good with a decent dub tho, since it might be hard to get someone into it by starting off with subs.

To be honest, it would all depend on what kind of genre the person would like to see more of.

However, I do recommend some good tearjerker movies such as Kotonoha no Niwa!
@Jebbika
(I miss you by the way)

Or perhaps Studio Ghibli could be a great way to get people into it. They make some pretty good movies.

I've been able to get a few people into anime with Baccano. It's got a good mixture of action and comedy, it's short enough to watch in a few sittings, it's not too weird, and it has a good dub in case the newbies don't want to deal with subtitles.

Death Note, Code Geass good classics. Although it was Mirai Nikki that got me into anime, pretty violent and psychologically confusing sometimes.
