They're great as long as they don't publicly embarass themselves or me. Preferrably me, when I don't know them that well.

Nothing wrong with having certain intrests, not matter how "extreme". As long as you don't shove it down other peoples throats.

I'm going to be honest and say that they seriously get on my nerves sometimes. I'm normally able to avoid them though.

I wholeheartedly agree with this guy. I don't mind if you watch anime, I do it too (obviously), but there's this threshold at which point it's just... too much. Like those people that will inject various Japanese words into their sentences, even using them incorrectly, because they are the only Japanese words they know. Sort of like the person in the screenshot puck posted. If you type like that, just know that it is very annoying. I've said it before, but I believe if you prefer the term "otaku," you are the most egregious type of weeaboo. "Otakus" are shunned in Japan. It's actually worse than it is here.

Liking anime is fun and all but at some point it just gets taken to far, that's when we call it a weeb. I had this friend once who was a weeaboo and the amount of times he publicly embarrased us might even have had some lasting effects on me. I still see him sometimes but half the time I'm just cringing.

I understand y'all but the reason otaku has a bad meaning because they think of the otaku muderer. It really means nerd in a way. You can be a cod otaku.

To be quite honest, I've never heard of this person.
Yes, the translation of otaku is nerd, but it has negative connotations for other reasons, such as:
  • No friends
  • Lack of social skills
  • Body pillow that stands on its own
  • Wizard (30 year-old virgin)
  • Fat/Lazy
  • Live with their parents
etc.

The thing is, otaku in any other context is used close to none. Who calls themselves a cod otaku? It's not a very effective stance.

All I know that they all have anime avatars, uses tildes to flirt with me therefore I must also fuck them and turn them into my healslut. On the Internet no one knows you're 3D!

but really, I don't really care besides if they interact with me. They can make themselves look shit in public, thats always a good laugh. for "otakus" depends on what you mean, outside of the internet no one else would use the term if they like a certain hobbies i.e. gun otakus, train otakus, football otakus, tracksuit otakus. its the same for both given its all up to the person on what knowledge he knows and how much he wants to show powerlevels on a public scale.

tbh Otaku's/Weaboos really annoy me, though I usually just ignore them. I don't see an issue with people watching anime and liking Japanese stuff, etc. But a lot of people really do take it too far to the point that they just act cringy as fuck.

It depends, i try to avoid those people on SNS since either they overflood the entire place with anime pics with captions like "I hate everyone, but i will come through" or "Im secretly a psycho and i hate them all for not understanding me". It's like "Grow a pair man, this is so cringy"
In public, since cons are more common here (and Santiago is such a small city to the point that you can't cyberbully someone without getting your shit punched off) i always stumble up with those cringemasters. I mean, you don't look like an anime character dude! The let his hair grow because "i look liek animays totes" and use striped fingerless gloves (I used them too tbh) to make themselves look like a homeless emo, and to top it, their personal care and hygiene are non existent so oftenly running stands and DJing cons are kinda hard since everyone likes to jump over and hug you. Im not a bitch about personal space and contact but can you get a shower before coming here? It's not that hard and it only takes 15 minutes.

I feel like the terms have been a bit overused, but the people in general are not really a problem to me as long as they aren't annoying, but that really applies to anyone with any type of interest.

Annoying as they may be at times, weaboos and otakus are still anime fans like the rest of us. From an economics perspective, I'd imagine those two groups constitute a sizeable chunk of the international anime/manga market; every minute they watch and every cent they spend encourages more, better titles every season. Studios are willing to take more risks, as there's always a stable market for their mainstay series. Without them, we probably wouldn't be here.

That said however, I kinda feel bad criticizing them. The younger ones, well: We all go through a cringey phase of our lives. Some just have it worse than others. And as for the older ones, I mean, most of my friends* from the high school anime club ended up saddled with dead-end jobs and recurring depression. Not exactly the kind of person you'd wanna drag through the mud.

*I use that term very loosely.

Wow, this post actually made me feel bad for hating on socially-inept weebs >~<

I guess if they're helping keep our mutual interests alive in the US then I can at least hate them a little less.
