I don't believe in god.

That being said I would like to believe we reincarnate in spirits after we die.

I really think we just die and that's it, though..

I've been thinking about this quite a bit lately, and I realized something.

You only exist in the present, right?

As in, you only exist right now. You can connect to your past through memories and to the future through predictive reasoning, but you only exist in the present moment.

If you suddenly ceased to exist and were replaced by an exact copy of yourself, 'you' would probably not notice anything.

This connects to death through the idea that your consciousness is only a product of the present moment of your brain's context. Every single one of your past selves died, and all your future selves are unborn. This has lead me to believe that when you die, it's the same as before being born, but it's also the same as whicheevr moment in your life you don't remember.

I really would like to be able to store all the data that makes me me (down to the fundamental particle level) so I can achieve immortality post-mortem. I know it's currently impossible, but I have faith in technology. If I get Alzheimer's before that technology exists and my memories are destroyed irreversibly, I will have failed at acquiring immortality from my perspective.

TL;DR: You only exist right now, your memories make you you, and you die because the 'hardware' storing your memories deteriorates. An exact copy of yourself is as close to the real you as you are.

In reality, all he's doing is pushing the same buttons he always has, nothing has changed. The longer he spends here, the more invested he gets, the more he forgets which life is the real one.

Well, we made of body, soul, and memories
When we die, our body will rot, memories will be forgotten and gone

Soul? Well some believe we will reach an empty space, where there isn't even a single thing except us. Some believe in heaven & hell, and some believe in reincarnation. I personally believe in heaven and hell.

I just think if reincarnation is real, why the world is getting more crowded day by day. Reincarnation theory is about "recycle" of the dead to live though. For this statement, I don't think I agree with reincarnation, but well its up to you

1. We reincarnate into another human being.
2. We continue our lives in a parallel universe.
3. We just die, once it happens that is the end of the story and everything moves on as usual.

These are the top three things that I personally believe will happen after death.

Lucretius said that death means nothing to us because we won't have any mechanism to conceive of living, or conceive period. When we think "how sad that he won't be able to see his family again" about a dead man it's nothing but our own projection. I've always enjoyed that kind of thinking.

Buddhism is my area of study but I've still never been able to distinguish the Buddhist conception of nirvana from this kind of non-conscious non-existence that Lucretius and others like him believe in. There seems to have to be some kind of nuance there.

I think we will experience the same thing as before we were born, or conceived or whatever. What it is, I have no idea of course.

it's gotten like this

If it exists, it's a fetish.
