Whadaya think about Tor? I personally use it on a daily basis and I think that it's great, Tor devs even released this 2 days ago.
https://blog.torproject.org/blog/tor-mes...tor-easily

It kind of bothers me when I see someone talking about "TEH ZOMG DWEEB WEB" without understanding how Tor works and the basics of Tor.
Here are some yt videos about Tor. I'd also like to encourage people to run tor relays, because sharing is caring!

I don't really use Tor all that often but you're damn right that I have it installed just in case.

I often use Tor for the deep web but I should probably start exploring more aspects of it.

you should use it as much as you can since the three letter government agencies are harvesting data

The term "deep/dark/whatever the fuck web" was pushed by cnn/bbc/other news sites/channels to make it sound more juicy. Websites with a .onion domain are called hidden services, Jacob in his little talk gives an example how retarded media can be, apparently bbc published an article on their website on how to make an account for Silk Road. The worst part is "internet experts" who eat everything up that media says make this kind of shit

I know that they're callled hidden services, but it's just easier to call it deep web. It's a lot more familiar, although it's not an accurate description of what you're talking about.

The Deeb Web is just Surface Web databases things that aren't publicly accessible like https://lewd.sx/nudes (if only senpai had directory listings enabled). The Dark Web is what you use Tor for c:

I tried using Tor a few years ago, but then I found out there was really no point to it because almost everything I do online would just compromise any security settings it provides. I just downloaded the newest version now, and it looks like they've improved it quite a bit. (they make it connect your browsing through their own network now, that's impressive) Still, I don't really do anything online that would need extra privacy, I don't even torrent anymore because pretty much everything I'd ever want is available through streaming services.

I guess it's cool that it's an option though, but you have to really go out of your way if you want to be anonymous online. It's just so much more convenient to use Chrome or Firefox over a regular connection, and you get so much more out of it. (more features with browser add-ons, you can actually use Flash and watch YouTube, your connections are faster... the list goes on)

I use a VPN service called cryptostorm and their DNS server allows access to tor hidden services. It's pretty interesting.

I've only dabbled in TOR a bit. I used it for a couple hidden forums, all of which I never stuck around on cause the owners were cunts. Aside from that though I never found a real reason to use it. However, it is a very good tool for those whose governments censor the internet, and helps keep people semi-anonymous.

Tor itself isn't illegal, people just host illegal content on its network because it's harder to trace

I have it installed on my computer but I never really do anything with it as I'm afraid to mess up my computer badly.

A classmate used it to look up dolphin porn though...

It's basically just a secure web browser, you don't have to use it for hidden services only

Pretty much this... I support privacy as a policy, but I just don't have a reason to be constantly paranoid about others seeing what I do online. Besides, the NSA doesn't even have people actively monitoring what you're doing, (there are far too many people/bots online to be able to do so) they just collect a fuck ton of statistics about what domains you visit and how frequently you communicate with others via Skype or IM. All of that gets thrown together into massive profiles and only if you reach a certain threshold in those statistics do you actually get monitored by another human.

I for one don't really care too mucha bout privacy (I use Chrome). I pretty much agree with @CompaIsMyWaifu . I undertand privacy violations are illegal, but I can't really make myself care at all. I'm just data to them, they're not tracking me personally, and if they did do that, the worst they'd find is piracy for anime streaming and tentacle or loli hentai.

In reality, all he's doing is pushing the same buttons he always has, nothing has changed. The longer he spends here, the more invested he gets, the more he forgets which life is the real one.

Im against nsa surveilence but technically, they are not violating any rights directly. They are sorta violating implied rights but its a murky fine line. So i agree with you but people gotta start making clearer arguments. Im am a active i2p and tor user myself.

I only use tor when I want to buy/sell things that I won't mention on here for obvious reasons.
Other then that I just keep it there.
