Using Mint + Cinnamon DE. Recently have become interested in Arch and the Plasma desktop tho.

Definitely consider the move! It'll take some effort though. You're going to need to explore the arch wiki and install the right packages to get it running as functional as mint. Because Arch isn't as out-of-the-box as mint is. But it has the potential to be.

I used to use Mint but I lost confidence in the dev team when about a few months ago they had a compromised ISO on their official website.
Lost confidence in their team and moved to Arch.

Anyway, if you install Arch you gotta patient in the beginning to get everything running.

P.S. Plasma is a bloated buggy piece of shit. It looks nice but will drive you nuts when you try to be productive.

The arch's pacman package manager manages well the cache but is a complete disaster when it comes to manage updates. My arch lasted only few pacman -Syu

What DE do you recommend?

And I heard the news about that. Although the compromise itself was unfortunate, I personally give them slack given they responded pretty well to the situation. I can see how that could permanently damage trust tho. I mostly am considering Arch because I like to tinker (although this tends to conflict with my need to be productive and straight-forward).

And yeah, when I attempted a virtual machine installation of Arch, I realized how much patience I need for it. Once I get a handle over it, I'll have the confidence to do an actual machine install.

I'd recommend dual booting arch then tbh, I'm not saying you can't be productive in Arch but it'll take time to get there.

As for a DE. I'm always partial to XFCE. Its lightweight, dependable, and highly configurable. Gnome3 is a disaster and KDE is too bloated. I run Gnome2 sometimes for old times sake. So tbh XFCE and Gnome2 are the only real choices for me, otherwise it'd be i3/Awesome/Openbox window manager.

I was going to redo the taskbar icons to match the theme, but I got exactly 1/5th of the way through before I stopped bothering.

I most certainly could, but I'm not the most efficient person and I like to drag stuff from my desktop to there instead of just hitting the delete button. I'm sure if I removed it I could adjust easily enough, but at the same time I don't mind it.

I am Recycle Bin, broken shortcuts, unnamed files, multiple different video player program icons on desktop, shitty wi-fi, Windows Has Several Problem flags, using the third Steam shortcut and not even renaming the shortcut from "Steam - Shortcut (2)" to "Steam", random probably unneeded .bat files, completely stock shell, icons blocking Chocola's fa- IS THIS BAIT!?

I'm not too triggered
